CNN Corporate Drone Says Tonight May Very Well Be President's Last SOTU Speech

CNN supports President Obama? Looks like they're manufacturing a defeat. Or is this just this one blond news model's opinion? She comes on 1-2pm, I don't watch CNN so I don't know her name.

...but given the general closeness of the polls, I suspect it is just a way to juice viewers. BTW - when was it ever assumed that CNN supported (or opposed) the President?

to CNN for being the best of the three major networks, and at least trying to have a shred of credibility.

That said, if I could trade all three for a day old ham sandwich...

From the day he announced his campaign the media went out of their way to try and defeat him. All the while praising Bush. The media is completely right-wing controlled and is against the democrats.

In 2012 the media darlings are of course Mitt Romney and Ron Paul (despite what the PaulBots say) but Obama will still win regardless.

I just don't see how anyone could think the media was out to defeat candidate Obama. I'm new though, maybe that's the general consensus around here?

What do you base that on?

That may or may not be the case, I'm just referring to the comment made that the media was out to defeat candidate Obama from day one.

That study refers to the first phase of the 2012 presidential campaign only and has nothing to do with the 2008 campaign. The poll was taken between May and October of 2011 and also doesn't apply to his first couple of years as President.

seriously did you see how much the media glorified Obama back in 2008?
He was portrayed as Super man, the savior, the 2nd coming of Christ.
He was the guy that was going to fix everything bush screwed up.

They have not really been anti-Obama either. While they might not fawn over him like some people do, the media, with the notable exception of Fox seem to have gone rather easy on him.

But it just seems that in general the media enjoys criticizing the President once in a while to keep ratings up.

None of the newsreaders or partisan pundits have a clue who's going to win - or if they suspect Obama has it sewn up, they won't say.

They need a controversy to keep viewers. If they came out and said that this SOTU speech was going to be a standard run of the mill ho-hum speech, fewer people would tune in.

Remember years ago when the SOTU was just an interruption in regular programming? It wasn't controversial, it was just a review of where the country was and where it might be headed. People would complain when it preempted their usual dramas. The networks even got so they would take turns on which would *have* to show it. And there were not the hours of speculation beforehand or analysis afterwards, except maybe on PBS or some radio shows.

But the cable news channels are content starved. They HAVE to create controversies to keep people watching. They put on partisan pundits to create a slant to their programming, then book guests who are guaranteed to argue with the hosts or with the other guests on the program. As my hubby says, the cable new directors are standing behind the cameras cheering them on, "Fight, fight, fight!"

So the cable news people make claims that are opinion, not fact, build up expectations of confrontations (Which Congress critter is going to boycott the SOTU *this* year? Which one will yell out something inappropriate?), and try to make it a "must watch" event.

Anything but cover the real issues that affect the 99% and how our elected representatives are doing nothing to solve those problems.
