I think it would really underscore his message of running to help ordinary people to select a relatively ordinary person for the job. I think a high school teacher or college professor who has a broad understanding of American government as well as international affairs, has been involved in their community, and has strong public speaking skills would be great for the ticket. I think the reason Bernie is getting so much public support is that people are sick of politics as usual and selecting a common middle class citizen with exceptional qualities would be a bold move that could really inspire people.

Bernie and Jessie go way back, and some of Jessie's Rainbow Coalition Platform looks very familiar:

• Rebuild America's infrastructure and provide jobs to all Americans,
• Reversing Reaganomics-inspired tax cuts for the richest ten percent of Americans
• Cutting the budget of the Department of Defense by as much as fifteen percent over the course of his administration
• Supporting family farmers by reviving many of Roosevelt's New Deal–era farm programs
• Creating a single-payer system of universal health care
• Ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment
• Increasing federal funding for lower-level public education and providing free community college to all
• Applying stricter enforcement of the Voting Rights Act

good fit, and an excellent balance for Bernie

and was responsible for securing the release of US hostages on several occasions:

International activism

Jackson's influence extended to international matters in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1983, Jackson traveled to Syria to secure the release of a captured American pilot, Navy Lt. Robert Goodman who was being held by the Syrian government...After a dramatic personal appeal that Jackson made to Syrian President Hafez al-Assad, Goodman was released...

In June 1984, Jackson negotiated the release of twenty-two Americans being held in Cuba after an invitation by Cuban president Fidel Castro...

On the eve of the 1991 Persian Gulf War, Jackson made a trip to Iraq, to plead to Saddam Hussein for the release of foreign nationals held there as the "human shield", securing the release of several British and twenty American individuals...

In April 1999, during the Kosovo War, Jackson traveled to Belgrade to negotiate the release of three U.S. POWs captured on the Macedonian border while patrolling with a UN peacekeeping unit. He met with the then-Yugoslav president Slobodan Milošević, who later agreed to release the three men...

So he successfully negotiated with al-Assad, Castro, Saddam, and Milošević? That should even impress TRump.

State Rep. Ana Hernandez Luna, 34, Texas

The young Texas state representative from Houston became the face of the illegal immigration issue last year when, in a dramatic speech on the floor of the Texas House, she revealed how she her parents brought her, as an infant, from Reynosa, Mexico, and how they lived, without proper documentation, in a shared brick duplex on Houston’s Alamo Street for eight years. With one five-minute speech, Hernandez Luna transformed herself from a local lawmaker to a national symbol.

U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, 54, California, seems to be a great fit for a President Sanders

Solis became the first Hispanic woman to serve in a U.S. president’s Cabinet when she was sworn in as President Obama’s Labor Secretary in 2009. The daughter of immigrant parents from Nicaragua and Mexico who met in U.S. citizenship class, Solis won a seat in Congress in 2000 by ousting a 9-term incumbent in the Democratic primary. During her time in elective office – which also included stints in the California Assembly and Senate – she made a name for herself by pushing for comprehensive immigration reform and environmental justice initiatives.

Women leaders for America are a tonic for a country sick at heart.

of heart with both Castros.

It was not Sanders' first visit to Texas since presidential buzz began surrounding him. In a comparatively low-key trip, he dropped in on Austin in April to meet with union workers and headline a fundraiser for the Travis County Democratic Party.

Andrew Andrews, a mail courier from Hurst who came to see Sanders in Dallas, welcomed the senator's emphasis on stumping across the "entire country and not just the strongholds" for Democrats.

Her being in charge of Homeland Security brings the national defense heft that Sen. Sanders could use. She was also a Governor of a western state which brings executive experience and helps with a western strategy.

Being a Latina helps with a couple different demographics which are important to winning in 2016.

She was born in 1957, so she will be 67 in 2024.

43. You might want to look at what Napolitano is doing to the UC system
Wed Sep 9, 2015, 03:54 AM
Sep 2015

The master plan of the University of California was about providing a free public education to all qualified California students.

Under Napolitano's watch tuition has risen to private school levels, students don't get housed because the University is busy building stadiums and leasing out facilities for profit (so many Berkeley students had to resort to food banks that they now have their own dedicated campus food bank), and the University has padded its classes with so many foreign students that they now have a difficult time making a case with the Governor for ongoing State funding. UC Berkeley struggles to attract a 2-3% African American students.

As President of the UC system, Napolitano had the opportunity to lead change and make UC Berkeley a great public institution again. Instead she chose quasi-privatization, backing over-priced online classes, and expanding enrollment far beyond the community's capacity to absorb them during a regional housing crisis. This will probably be the year of homeless students at UC Berkeley.

Napolitano's priorities were wrong for the UC system, and they would be wrong as President of the United States.

Making someone like Warren, or Barbara Lee vice president would just take them out of the game.

James Nance Garner: "The Vice Presidency isn't worth a warm bucket of piss."

Hubert Humphrey: "Their was a woman who had two sons. One went out to sea and the other became Vice President of the United
States. Neither was ever heard from again."

Every presidential election cycle, I've heard the same nonsense about selecting the VP. In truth, if it made any difference do you think anyone would have put Palin up as a candidate?

Wed Sep 9, 2015, 05:04 PM

It is really simple.

First, there is this really long campaign for the nomination. Some folks like it to be a never, ever ending campaign that goes on perpertually. But no matter.

Once the interminably long campaign goes on for a while there comes a time when there are elections or caucuses to select folks who will nominate the candidate. Now, since a lot of money is made promoting the candidates it is the best interest of those who get wealthy by such promotions to extend them as long as possible. And of course, the competition to be the first pushes these contests earlier and earlier.

Thus, Wolf Blitzer starts blabbing about the 2016 election well before the 2012 election has been decided.

And the same thing happens here on DU.

All idiotic useless blabber. Even going on now.
