2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI fear Jeb will get the nom., Hilly will be swiftboated & Bernie will be labeled a "socialist jew"
and we all be screwed. I mean, look how close Romney got to the big show and he was a chump. I fear Jeb. I really do.

(14,733 posts)Did you really just have 2 letters two few on your chosen title? You could have let her have her full name and moved the "socialist Jew" part into the body of the OP.
I really don't fear Jeb nearly as much as I fear idiocy and the rise of Trump at this point.

(5,865 posts)And I am sure that Jeb's camp loves their hand if he gets the nod. Behind closed doors, they are saying... all we gotta do is beat a jew and a woman... this is a hell of a lot easier than stealing an election and mischaracterizing a war hero as a coward.
And I do not fear Trump. Not one bit. Not in a head to head election. He has more baggage than anyone. He is too uninformed to do well in a debate and he is too divisive. And... no latino will be voting for him. And who's endorsement has he gotten.... Sara Palin. Trump is not a worry. Once the circular firing squad of whackos fire their last round and the smoke clears, Jeb could easily be the last one standing.
I am bummed that Colbert even had him on his show. I fear Jeb.

(5,865 posts)his uncompromising vision... his humanity, humility and morality. Its all quite breathtaking. He is the real deal.
Note: I found your use of the proverbial "we" in your post to a bit snarky but I have thick skin. Ironically, I happen to be Jewish.
I also like Hillary a lot but not nearly as much. I hope she finds her voice and hits her stride. Her inability to get ahead of the email thing is troubling. I mean, a hell of a lot more is going to be thrown her way.

(8,760 posts)my apologies to you...It is rare to see actual concern on this site.
I have Jewish ancestors myself, and I have been waiting to see how "socialist jew"
might be introduced into the conversation.
It is hard for a direct attack like that to occur....even among Republicans. They will have to stick with socialist or find another code word.
It works better as "I'm not anti-Semitic, but Republicans are, so we had better nominate Hillary" which is why I was testing.
I admire Hillary, but I don't like the way that she functions politically.....I think that she either gets a lot of bad advice,
or she doesn't have good political instincts, or both......
She has a quality that an acquaintance from China once expressed to me about himself, that also revealed something about the structure of his native language, and I have made his phase my personal motto. It does apply to Hillary

(60,536 posts)that I know of; it's coming from GOP supporters, e.g., "how did socialism work for Venezuela? Do you think a socialist Jew will do any better here?" I saw that one on the Washington Post. I've seen similar comments at The Daily Beast (they've shut down their comment section). Take a trip through the comments section of Politico...scarey stuff over there!

As for Bernie I think his campaign have their game plan together for the media character assassins.

(58,785 posts)She's far stronger than the media's negative football-style coverage suggests. That's bad news for ardent Bernie supporters, and I fully understand as I share so many of his positions, but it's the way it is.
As for the rest, Hillary already has been swiftboated a number of times, is being swiftboated, and will again be swiftboated, and Bernie's already labeled a "socialist Jew" -- but not by anyone who'd vote for them anyway. What's new?
We're far stronger at this point than the GOP. Yes, Big Money as always is heavily on the GOP side, and money usually wins, but their candidate lost the White House the last time and so far they're doing far worse this time.
Here's a problem, but not ours: Trump! How do THEY get rid of HIM without that giant loose flywheel coming off and destroying their chances completely? You know he could help/may be helping hand the Senate and various governorships to the Democrats, not just the White House.

(22,651 posts)Republicans seem like they're in a state of media shock over Trump. They never expected to be so dominated by a TV showman!
All their dreams of Jebbie spearing Mrs. Clinton over Bengazi & emails cost them much money and years of time.
Time & republican millions spent, gone due to Mr. Trumps big mouth.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)though, and is now reaping the whirlwind of its own creation. The Trump phenomenon is backlash for right-wing leaders betraying their followers for so long, not least including scheming to keep them worried and discontent so they'd stay as angry at the left as possible and vote as conservatively as possible. This includes doing what they could to suppress economic recovery during the Obama years. Beyond despicable.

(11,197 posts)that's the obvious intent behind EVM's since it's a design feature; but I am pretty confident the turnout for Bernie will overwhelm the percentage of vote shifting that will likely occur.

(87 posts)rarely produce desirable outcomes - but courage can move mountains. Revolutions always require courage. And I agree with Bernie: we need a political revolution in this country - now! If we stand together, take courage in our numbers, and in the justness of the causes we fight for, we will prevail. If we allow ourselves to choose the next president based on our fears, we will get what we deserve.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)It seems to me, Donf, that some others here are so happy to have a candidate they truly believe in that they refuse to consider the consequences if another liberal or at least centrist progressive does not win in 2016. That worries me because I believe that those consequences are potentially dreadful. Yes, support the true favorite as strongly and as far as possible -- but not to defeat if it came to that. And not to disengage if disappointed. We'd win nearly every election these days IF MORE OF US VOTED.
BTW, I also believe the notion some have adopted that Hillary is a corrupt, money-chasing tool of business who in no way shares their values is not just totally incorrect but also extremely self indulgent and irresponsible. This decision needs whole-brain analysis of all candidates. Isn't honest analysis where the liberal mind is supposed to have the edge?

If Americans are so stupid as to vote for a 3rd Bush, we get what we deserve and there is no hope for this country, corporations will have dumbed the populace down to the point of no return.

(32,886 posts)he still needs Republican grass roots to pull the lever to get the nomination, and they can't stand the guy. Bernie being Jewish isn't going to be an issue, about as many people, 93% or so, are willing to vote for a Jewish person as an African American or a woman.
The Socialist thing is a total other animal. 50% of the country has said in polls that they would not consider voting for a Socialist. People lost their minds when I posted that poll result (from Gallup by the way) but its a fatal problem for Bernie's candidacy.
My fear is that Trump will get the nomination and between now and then, his status as a movement candidate grows. Nothing seems to hurt him, nothing seems to slow him down. Things that he says that would have destroyed other candidates on either side of the aisle only seems to make him more popular.
Trump is the true danger. Any of the other clown car occupants are completely weak and insignificant. Hillary would beat them into the ground easily.
