Columbus, Ohio (CNN)Hillary Clinton confessed Thursday to something liberals have long suspected: being a moderate Democrat.
"You know, I get accused of being kind of moderate and center," Clinton told the audience at a Women for Hillary event in Ohio. "I plead guilty."
The line is new for Clinton, who spent a large portion of her early campaign casting herself as a liberal fighter who has been progressive for her entire life. To many on the left, those lines never really rang true.
"I take a backseat to no one," Clinton told a New Hampshire audience in July, "When you look at my record in standing up and fighting for progressive values."

Back In obama vs Clinton untill after Iowa it was young voters and ant-war liberals supporting Obama which got him victory In Iowa.it wasn't till after that black voters joined obama.
Hillary Is centrist. The Democratic party is split between liberals/progressives,moderates,and centrists/corporates.moderate is too
liberal to describe her.

(6,409 posts)Run to the base in the primaries, then run to the middle for the general election. Sanders does not do this, of course, which why I like him, and why the DNC doesn't like him.

(5,066 posts)running as moderate in priarmys isn't running to base. She like 2008 is trying to run a GE in the primaries.
Of course she tries to talk at times like bernie or O'Malley light but it's so phony.

(10,721 posts)No suspecting about it. Her long-standing and extensive ties to the likes of Beacon Global Strategies, Monsanto, Corrections Corporation of America, Burson-Marsteller and massive donations from big banks sort of outed her a long, long time ago.
Big Banks, Big Pharma, Big Ag, the military industrial complex, the prison industrial complex et al. don't have any problem with the thought of a Clinton presidency.
But it's okay, because she has a 'D' next to her name, she's not as bad as whoever the Republican Party nominates and she knows when to express progressive rhetoric on social issues (and when to utilize the Southern Strategy against Obama or to distance herself from Obama, like she did in South Carolina in 2008). So, it's all good.

(65,173 posts)I'm moderate, I'm moderate! All the while the Repukes will remain far right and we go further right as a country. That is what trying to find compromise with them will do. And while some may call it "screaming," others call it passion. Getting tired of the "moderate"/Third Way scare tactics.

(10,721 posts)Republicans will paint her as a liberal extremist, as they've always done. This is how the Overton Window shifts.
So, if they're going to paint the opponent that way no matter what, the Democratic Party might as well nominate someone who is actually progressive. Or so one might think. But the Democratic Party is ruled by many of the same corporate interests. No, the parties aren't the same. But they also aren't as different as all the talk of polarization might suggest.
That is why I am not so sure the "socialist" label will work on Bernie. They try to make any of our candidates extremely liberal. Plus I think Bernie does a good job of explaining his positions.

(5,213 posts)Also, I don't see how her words can possibly be true as I've been told time after time here what a super-progressive-left-of-Obama-liberal she is. I've even seen the charts posted that prove it!

The political parties being skewed to the far right of the American people means moderate is anything but.
Thanks for the thread, Report.

(10,721 posts)She's just as progressive as Sanders when it's convenient. She's a centrist when it's convenient. Like you said, she'll be whatever she needs to be whenever she needs to be. It's all about power. Whatever it takes.

She has no core values at all, it seems. She says whatever she thinks fits the occasion.

(23,664 posts)You would say she has to make a significant move to the left if she wants to call herself a moderate.
I dont necessarily agree. I think she tailors what she says to fit the audience she is speaking to. I doubt that she actually possesses any moral principles at all.
More and more, when I hear her speak, I hear:
