Bernie Sanders' address at Liberty University Monday will be candidate's only stop in Lynchburg

Sanders, the independent Vermont senator seeking the Democratic nomination for president, will speak at Liberty’s Vine Center at 10:30 a.m. during convocation.

The university’s convocations generally are open to the public, though Liberty President Jerry Falwell has said the school typically doesn’t advertise because students fill most of the seats.

Falwell has said the school is inviting all presidential candidates for the 2016 election cycle. Ben Carson, a Republican candidate, has committed to speak Nov. 11. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, spoke there after announcing his campaign in March. Jeb Bush, former Florida governor, spoke at Liberty’s commencement in May before he announced his presidential campaign.

“We have a very conservative student body,” Falwell told The News & Advance when the convocation schedule was announced. “I admire (Sanders) for having the courage to come to Liberty and speak.”

note that C-SPAN plans to broadcast it online
