(486 posts)Thanks for posting this Fawke Em. I saw quite a few positive tweets and comments online too.
It was a very good event overall I'd say...
Bernie was fearless, forceful... he even quoted the bible and the Pope, but he did not pander. This was mostly a somewhat shortened version of his usual stump speech with no pulled punches, presented with a natural honest delivery that was 100% Bernie. WYSIWYG.
To their credit, the crowd was respectful and tolerant on many points of expected disagreement, and even surprisingly enthusiastic on several points of perhaps unexpected agreement. But in truth, there were some pretty cold faces in the audience as well... This was certainly not a typical gathering for him.
So he planted some more seeds in the south...
Some will not grow... and some almost certainly will.

(33,688 posts)Bernie says what he means and means what he says in plain English.
Most people instinctively know when someone is conning them or being totally straight with them. And Bernie is as honest as the day is long. He's the real deal, and it's easy to see that. Like Popeye the Sailor, he yam what he yam and that's all what he yam.

(11,366 posts)I live in ET's largest city and we're a slight blue - we have the state's first Latina mayor, a Democrat, so we've come a long way from our Republican roots, but, yes, planting these seeds in the South is imperative.
I like how Bernie talks with, and not "to," Southern voters.
On edit: Nashville just elected their first female mayor, too, another liberal Democrat. Knoxville, my city, congratulates them on electing liberal women. We love ours.

(11,366 posts)Some loved him, some hated him, but most thought it was very statesman of him to come and share.
What I found most amazing is that they listened, they thanked him (on Twitter, no less, because that's how young people communicate) even if they didn't agree and THANKED him AGAIN for agreeing to disagree.
The truth is that most of the crowd felt they had to be there even though it wasn't "required," like Cruz was (apparently, his speech was curriculum, but Bernie's was not).
We could ALL learn from this event.\
And to think, I was told I was full of shit by seabeyond for thinking this event might amount to anything.

Good job at tweeting and listening to them as well.
Bernie is just willing to hear it all, to speak to everyone and to stay close to his moral compass.
He really is kind of fearless, and he doesn't seem to have the need to be liked. He just knows what he feels is right and he is willing to keep the doors open for anyone who wants to come on board.
