O'Malley on limited Dem debates: 'It's beneath us'

Democratic presidential candidate Martin O'Malley on Thursday used Wednesday's highly viewed main-stage GOP debate to argue for more debates in his own party.

"Telling New Hampshire they can only have one before New Hampshire, telling Iowa only one day before Iowa — that's never happened before. And I think people find it insulting. It's beneath us as a party," O'Malley said on MSNBC's "The Rundown with Jose Diaz-Balart."

O'Malley has for weeks pushed the Democratic National Committee to offer more debates, pointing to the "vitriol" in Wednesday's Republican debate, the second so far this cycle, which appeared to draw north of 20 million viewers. Last month's debate also saw high viewership at 25 million.

"And what do you hear from the Democratic Party? Nothing," O'Malley said, noting the first Democratic debate is not until next month.

"We should be putting our ideas out there and countering the hate that's coming towards new American immigrants from the other side," O'Malley said.

hate and ignorance and garbage, and because the Dems wont do debates, the public isnt hearing from the adults.

They are only hearing from candidates who viciously hate half of the country and deny climate change while debating a few hundred miles from fires destroying homes and communities.

We have to get the message of the adults out there.

just what we would expect from greedy power mongers. She doesn't care that she's giving the Republicans a three month lead time to have their debates and put on the show and get their message out. There are people who will pick one of these candidates on the Republican side and think that they're all that, and nothing that we do will be able to get them back.

I swear the DNC is trying their damnedest to throw this election. God forbid we actually have qualified, progressive candidates like O'Malley and Sanders.

Letting the GOP get away with all their lies, with Trump not once giving any "detail" on how he will fix anything, with their beating the war drums, not talking about the economy, jobs, etc., just arguing back and forth, is insane! We should have been out their debating after their first debate, and after every other one they have. DWS needs to be fired, right now for this insane debate schedule and rules, she came up with. It's sickening to watch our candidates sit on their ass because of some dumbass rules she put into the debate plans.

It's been decided that the Dem primaries have to be fixed in every way possible.

I agree with O'Malley, when that mindset owns the party and rules the party, it ain't democracy.
