Let's take 10k and see how it goes. That will give us an idea of what we need to do, etc. Then we can take 10k or 20k in the next batch, and 39k in the following group, etc. There does not need to be a "ceiling" of 65k, as long as we can keep up and deal with the challenges.

Where are tens of thousands of extra jobs going to come from to support them?

The big business employment headlines from the last two weeks were about big corporations laying off tens of thousands of workers.

in an assisted-living facility, gets much of her daily care from Somali refugees and their families. There is still a shortage of workers at those jobs. It's a field where that group of refugees and their families are finding work. If they were not here, there would be an even larger shortage.

Some Somali health care workers have gone on to become registered nurses, too. It's a good trend, I believe.

I see that you are a Sanders supporter. What does he have to say about these Syrian refugees?

is not a wonderful job. It's hard work and not always pleasant. Somali refugees have found out how to get the required training and are flocking to places that provide that training. Then, they're getting the jobs. Anyone else could do the same, of course, but it's not a job that is attractive to many people.

And so it has been for immigrant populations for a very long time.

They're not taking jobs that are eagerly sought after. They're taking jobs that are short of workers.

Living in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, I come into contact with refugees from many places on a regular basis. We all benefit from helping them find new lives and directions, I believe.

while ignoring the REAL leader!

O'Malley's letter to Obama on the Syrian Crisis

I have called for the United States to accept at least 65,000 Syrian refugees by 2017 – a number that is consistent with past U.S. policy and requests from humanitarian organizations. Welcoming 65,000 refugees would be the rough equivalent of accommodating just six more people in a baseball stadium that holds 32,000. Germany has one-fourth our population and is accepting 800,000 refugees this year, and 500,000 in subsequent years.

Certainly we can do more. Our credibility as a leader of nations requires that we do more. And the principles of our country demand that we do more.

As a former governor, I am aware of the precautions that must be taken to protect our homeland.
But our country is large enough and compassionate enough to welcome 65,000 Syrian refugees by 2017, and I encourage you to do everything in your power to respond appropriately to this moral imperative.

Sincerely,
Martin O’Malley
Former Governor of Maryland

...this election is all about the choices these politicians intend to make in the future. Complaining that the issue of refugees shouldn't be 'politicized' suggests that no one outside of the administration should have a say in this. Great that you 'trust' Obama. Our democracy challenges us to do more than just trust these politicians to do the right thing.

I don't believe either Clinton or O'Malley have access to that info (and with Clinton it's probably a good thing since she has no clue about how to treat classified information).

Btw, only one of these three leading candidates hasn't been a member of the D.C. 'establishment' for decades.
