The Hill: Clinton explains shift on Keystone, other key issues

The Hill: Clinton explains shift on Keystone, other key issues

In an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Chuck Todd asked Clinton if her position on Keystone had changed as a matter of political expediency.
Clinton once said that she was “inclined” to sign off on the project because the U.S. was “either going to be dependent on dirty oil from the Gulf or dependent on dirty oil from Canada.”

“When I made that statement years ago, we did not have the kind of energy profile that we now have,” Clinton said. “We did not have the full understanding of how the particular oil that would have been extracted from those tar sands was of a different degree of dirtiness and polluting in terms of greenhouse gasses.”

“I did feel that I shouldn't jump in before the president and Secretary Kerry and make my views known, because they're still in the middle of that process,” Clinton said Sunday. “But it was, frankly, uncomfortable to have so many people asking me…So I've said, ‘Look, I'm against it.’ "

Todd also pressed Clinton on reversals on two other key issues – gay marriage and the Iraq War.

Clinton admitted that she was misled by bad intelligence in the run-up to the war, and defended her switch on same-sex marriage, saying that, like President Obama, she has “evolved” on the issue.

“Like a lot of people, including our president, I did evolve,” Clinton said. “And I was not raised to even imagine this. And I'm thrilled now that it is the law of the land. And I have a lot of good friends who are now able to be married because of the changes we've made legally and constitutionally.”

On Keystone XL and marriage equality I'm willing to give Mrs. Clinton a pass on former stances. The important thing is where she is now. The Iraq votes continues to be troubling because given the same evidence, Mr. Sanders made the correct decision.

I'm pretty sure you and the rest of the administration was being told just how dirty that oil was by protesters way back then. If you 'didn't know', it was because you didn't want to know, not because it was 'hidden' from you in any way.

What needs to be asked as a follow up on this subject is:

"What do you think the next thing that you will be wrong about while Sen. Sanders is right about it, and can the country afford to wait for months or years for you to figure out that you are wrong?"

Nobody ever seems to project her pattern of being wrong out into the future. It is always treated as if it is something that is in her past. We really can't risk her as our nominee.

That's all that can be said about all of these things.
She can't take any responsibility for anything, she's a victim of bad intelligence, or something was legal at the time, or "oops, sry bout the gay" and just walks away from it.

her excuses for the Iraq War vote and for the fiasco that is the mail server issue.

She is never responsible for her actions. She seems to never really know at the time when certain choices are made that they will have consequences later on. This is not a leader. This is definitely not someone I want in the White House.

Not Presidential material, either way.

There's two things that more than likely have happened.

1. She received word it's going to pass and now she has the cover to say she's against it (wink*wink behind closed doors-not really XL best buds), even though she really isn't.

2. She received word it's not going to pass, so she's safe to come out against it.

I GUARANTEE one of those is true.

I'm glad she's came out against it whatever her excuse is. The problem IS, if it passes and she has said she's against it, so what that she came out against it? There's not a damn thing she'll be able to do about it. Her hands will be tied, dontcha know? Perfect cover.

Yeah, I'm cynical and for good reason. The establishment cannot EVER be trusted.
