The Christian Science Monitor talks about Romney, taxes, and auditing...worth a look!!!

http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/DC-Decoder/Decoder-Wire/2012/0730/Mitt-Romney-says-he-s-been-audited-by-the-IRS.-Does-that-matter

Reporters have been wondering about Romney's possible audit history for some time. Just last week, Mother Jones ran a piece that questioned whether Romney could be targeted by a task force that the IRS created in 2009 to audit high-wealth individuals who “make use of sophisticated financial, business, and investment arrangements with complicated legal structures and tax consequences” – a description that, the article noted, sounds a lot like Romney.

So far, the task force has audited 36 individuals and found that 24 of them had not, in fact, paid all the taxes they actually owed: “Out of the 36 high-wealth individuals audited in fiscal 2011 and the first five months of fiscal 2012, the IRS discovered an extra $47 million in taxes that should have been paid by 24 people in that group.”

While it’s clear that over the weekend, Romney brought up his audits as a way of implying that his tax forms have been thoroughly scrutinized by the government – and passed muster – he did not explicitly say whether he ever wound up having to pay any penalties or additional taxes as a result of those audits.

So far, the Romney campaign isn't offering much more.

Someone needs to ask him THAT question...for starters!!!!!

1. That's one of my favorite sites. Despite the name, they're REALLY objective.

And don't expect anything from rMoney. The issue is going to dog him until the end. He has to know he's in a no-win situation.

3. I don't either. I don't know the history of the name, but the reporting is about the best there is.

4. It's a newspaper that is owned by the Christian Science church. You'd hardly know it, though.

They're the ones that don't believe in medical intervention. Couldn't convince me to join that outfit!

This wiki repeats everything I've heard about the paper. I've enjoyed it for years, used to buy it at the news stand frequently when they published a paper copy!

6. Me, a "stay away from medicine" sort for many years, is now on too many drugs to count.

I never needed them (well, other than pot and booze) until about four years ago, but now I rely on them heavily. Going from life-long healthy to royally fucked up is a major ego buster. I even have to take a daily injection now. There are times when you have to sacrifice your beliefs for the sake of your family. I wouldn't be around without those drugs.

9. Hate to say it, but I've got a geezer box - 4x7 cases. Then there's my injection box.

I used to be terrified of needles. My mom tried to discipline us by threatening to take us to the doctor for a shot (Dr. Pain, not joking). No WONDER I was frightened!!!

Since my health problems started, I've been stabbed so many times that I couldn't count them. Stabbing myself with a #29 needle is nothing compared to what I've been through.

5. The oher implication in Romney's statements

is that there was a full audit of Romney's taxes. Very likley there was one aspect that flagged the auditors, perhaps even something as inane as his place of residency....and it was corrected and nothing more happened. I was once subjected to a one line audit for inserting numbers/deductions on an incorrect line. It happens. The term "Audit" means very little in the vague narrative Romney offers.

7. He took a HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION in UTAH while trying to tell the citizens of MA

that he was a resident of the Bay State.

He ended up having to pay extra to Utah.

Would he have so done if someone at the Globe Spotlight team hadn't noticed? And ratted on him?

Hell to the no!

He's a cheat.
