Ohio GOP Gang Up On Grover Norquist

Ohio Republicans are gaining up on notorious doucheasaurus, Grover Norquist today.

Voinovich: Says Norquist should go jump in a lake.
LaTourette: Calls Norquist’s logic “crap.”

With all due respect to Congressman LaTourette, I’d call his logic diarrhea. It is, after all, a seemingly never-ending stream of inexplicable waste.

Every single one of those hillbillies pledged not to raise taxes. In the past five days, every damned Republican in Congress voted to block an extension of the middle class tax cut, thus effectively raising taxes on something like 70% of all voters.

Now, all of those Republican politicians understand implicitly that the not raising taxes pledge contained a silent "for the rich" clause, but Norquist's protection racket is based on a horde of ignorant but highly motivated people of modest means who shovel over what little they have to Grover. They are loud and highly influential among the brownshirt types in the GOP.

That puts Grover's formerly tolerated little protection racket in the position of being an earth-shaking, party-destroying fist of retribution. His "promise" to those who would defy him was that he would double the reelection costs of any tax-raising Republican by finding and running a primary contender against that candidate in every subsequent election until he is defeated.

That worked while his blackmail could be focused on dissenting individuals, but now that everyone has defied him, it is in their mutual interests to destroy him. So first they'll distance themselves and ridicule him. Then they'll tell what they know about him.

I'll bet the DOJ starts getting some tasty tips about Norquist in the next week--and Grover was a bad, bad criminal during the Bush years. Like, shit with no statute of limitations if rumors of his financial relationship with the 9/11 terrorists turn out to have substance.

Even with the focus group-tested phrases and knee-jerk reactions that seem to inform today's GOP, I wondered how command such fealty.

Glad to hear someone's pushing back. Norquist is long overdue for a visit from Mr. or Ms. Karma.

The CWA made it unlawful to discharge any pollutant from a point source into navigable waters, unless a permit was obtained.
