Romney Smears Obama, Falsely Claims He Filed Lawsuit To Restrict Military Voting In Ohio

The dishonorable Romney campaign is sinking to a new low today with this blatant lie.

From: ThinkProgress

Today on Facebook, Mitt Romney claims that the Obama campaign is trying to “undermine” the ability of members of the military to vote in Ohio:

President Obama’s lawsuit claiming it is unconstitutional for Ohio to allow servicemen and women extended early voting privileges during the state’s early voting period is an outrage. The brave men and women of our military make tremendous sacrifices to protect and defend our freedoms, and we should do everything we can to protect their fundamental right to vote. I stand with the fifteen military groups that are defending the rights of military voters, and if I’m entrusted to be the commander-in-chief, I’ll work to protect the voting rights of our military, not undermine them.

This certainly sounds outrageous, but it is not true. Since 2005, Ohio has had in person early-voting in the three days prior to the election. This year, however, the Republican legislature in Ohio eliminated early voting during this period, except for members of the military. The Obama lawsuit is attempting to restore voting rights for all Ohioans, not restrict them for the military or any other group. From the Obama lawsuit, filed in federal court:

---SNIP---

The Obama campaign’s request for a preliminary injunction does not seek to restrict military voting. Rather, it simply is asking that the full early voting period be open to all citizens, as it was under the law before this year.

But I also noticed plenty of idiots posting on his page who don't bother to find out the truth and remain willfully ignorant.

If he went too far or not will really depend on if the M$M picks up on it and calls out Rmoney for this lie. I have little hope that will happen unless the Obama campaign pushes back hard.

<-this 25 year registered Republican will be voting for Obama. Way to go Romney. You could have led a successful campaign without blatant flat out lying but instead, you continuously try to smear the President with falsehoods thinking the majority of the public will not do their research. The debates will be good. You have no where to hide.

Way to screw your own campaign Mittwit!

I did it in a very helpful way to educate the folks that may fall for it. We ALL need to do this.. we need to preempt the BS that will be hitting facebook, and provide the snopes link. I do that any time a 'friend' posts anything that is bogus. I do it in a very helpful way...

Lots and lots of people standing up for the truth - and I "like" every one. There's also a lot of idiots trying to change the subject. Nobody can defend this blatant lie, they just chime in and agree or trash Obama without bothering to click all the links and read. Facts mean nothing to Rethugs.

Like this one:

The truly AMUSING thing about Romney supporters, you show them truth, they prefer to believe the lie. Good thing there are so few of them.
