The reason pro-Palestine Boston students picked Bernie Sanders’ rally to make a statement

Boston.com: The reason pro-Palestine Boston students picked Bernie Sanders’ rally to make a statement

When the students arrived outside the Convention Center—where more than 20,000 people showed up to hear Sanders speak Saturday—they were asked by event staff to take down their pro-Palestine sign or leave.

Ultimately, it was the latter—though the Sanders campaign later apologized and said it never should have happened.

“We chose to attend this rally because Sanders is the candidate we feel most aligned with in regards to domestic social justice issues and where we believe our voices may be heard,” Samirah told Boston.com.

He referred to the Vermont senator’s support for the Black Lives Matter movement and efforts to address economic inequality. The student group, which advocates for Palestinian human rights and self-determination, said they find Sanders, who is Jewish, “more closely aligned” with their views and ideals, compared to Hillary Clinton or any other presidential candidate.

“We were not there to disrupt Sanders’s speech,” Samirah said. “Our genuine expectations were that the rally served as the perfect opportunity to show our support while also raising a very important question.”

I've spoken with some of them on social media. My son is half Palestinian and this issue is also very important to me.

They adore Bernie and were very pleased that his paid campaign staff reached out to them after hearing about this incident to apologize and state that there was absolutely nothing wrong with their sign. The staffer who told them to leave wasn't fired, btw. That person was a volunteer and you can't really fire a volunteer, but that person will no longer be working rallies.

They have their own Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/WillYaFeelTheBern4Palestine?fref=ts

They are still "feeling the bern," if you believe their images.
