Clinton Denies Coordination with Super PAC in Woodruff Interview

PBS Newshour: Full Interview: Hillary Clinton on trade pact doubts, dealing with Putin

JUDY WOODRUFF: Let me bring you back home to the subject of guns and gun control in the aftermath of this terrible shooting at the community college in Oregon. This week, you came out for tightening controls on guns and you talked about what you would do differently. Is this really laying out the defining difference between you and Senator Sanders when it comes to gun control?

HILLARY CLINTON: Well, look, I think this is something I care passionately about. I have been — I’ve spoken out and tried to work on this for more than 20 years. I have a record. I’m going to defend my record. I will let others speak to their record.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Are you saying that’s a contrast with Senator Sanders?

HILLARY CLINTON: I’m saying this is my position and others will state their positions.

JUDY WOODRUFF: You’ve said that the super-PAC that’s out there supporting you, at least one of them, that they are there really to criticize Republicans. But one of the PACs that’s supporting you is now attacking Senator Sanders.

I guess my question is do you approve of this? Going after Senator Sanders by the super-PAC? We know there’s coordination.

HILLARY CLINTON: Well, I don’t know anything about what you’re saying. I have no knowledge of what they are doing. I’ve said I want anybody supporting me to go after Republicans because whatever differences we might have on the Democratic side, they pale in comparison to the really substantive differences we have with the Republicans.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Would you call on them to cease and desist and stop criticizing Senator Sanders?

HILLARY CLINTON: I just said I want them to — I want people who support me to go after Republicans. That’s what I — I’ve said it before, I’m saying it again on this show.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Well — and just continuing in that vein, the David Brock Group, it’s been reported this week in New York Magazine, is digging through Vice President Biden’s past, his record, in so-called opposition research. My question is do you approve of this?

HILLARY CLINTON: You know, I — first of all, I have no knowledge of it. I have been very clear, anybody who listens to my public statements, anybody who pays attention to what I say, I want to give Vice President Biden whatever space and time he needs to make his decision.

Now, if he gets into the election, then people are going to be raising questions, just like they do about me. That’s what happens when you get into the arena. But I’m not asking and I don’t approve of anybody who is supporting me, or say they support me, to be focusing on anyone other than the Republicans.

JUDY WOODRUFF: But for you to — you’re saying that you weren’t aware that they were doing this and you don’t approve of it, but the fact that they’re doing it, isn’t that really an effort to intimidate the Vice President against getting into the race?

HILLARY CLINTON: Judy, I have no — I don’t know anything about it. I can’t comment on it any further than I have.

It has been reported in numerous sources that Correct the Record has been directly coordinating with the Clinton campaign.

Groups supporting Hillary Rodham Clinton are part of this phenomenon too. A rapid-response group called Correct the Record broke away from a pro-Hillary super PAC and is now working directly with the campaign. A spokeswoman for the group contends an FEC loophole means that the coordination regulation doesn’t apply to them because their work is posted only online.

1. Hillary has absolutely no reason to go after

Sanders. Look at his poll numbers. He can't break out of the 20% range. Even if he won IA and NH he can't win in the South and Super Tuesday will knock him out of the race if he isn't gone by then.
Hillary wants to concentrate on the repubs because she can win the nomination early while they are still running around in the clown car.

many of us here don't like being told who we're going to vote for in the general election. We will vote our conscience and that may not mean voting for a Warhawk and a corporate shill. I thought we were done with these loyalty oaths on DU.

have a nice day.

2. It seems quite evident that she can't provide honest answers about this.

She's walking that line that she thinks keeps it honest but it seems pretty darned clear that she's fine with the Super PAC attack ads on Sanders and has no remorse and no plans to change it.

It's very sad to see when a public person blatantly lets their ambition get the better of their integrity.

The most used attack of Hillary through the years was that she is ambitious.

Because actually addressing her sudden flip-flop and betrayal of the Obama administration is kinda awkward for you.

So it's time to call everyone who does not support Clinton a sexist. Again.

9. I don't think she flip flopped or turned on Obama

To me the whole primary is something I have to wait out. Bernie doesn't have a chance at the nomination because he can't get enough support. I have no real motivation to do or say what to posted.

11. Obama wants it passed. She (now) does not want it passed.

So they're clearly on the same page!!

Also, she previously called it "the gold standard". She now claims to not like it, but it hasn't been released yet. So she could not have seen any changes that make it "unsavory" now unless she violated laws about classified information again.

Bernie doesn't have a chance at the nomination because he can't get enough support.

Then your constant attacks on Sanders and his supporters are are based on.......?

If you actually thought he couldn't win, there'd be no reason for you to attack every single pro-Sanders post on DU. In fact, you'd want to avoid that in order to not alienate the Sanders supporters you will need to win the general election.

So either you're doing something really dumb, or you think Sanders has a chance.

12. Hillary and Obama are two individual people
Thu Oct 8, 2015, 11:56 AM
Oct 2015

Hillary is her own person she isn't Obama 2.0 and she isn't Bill Clinton 2.0.
Seems some people just can't see a woman as a complete being without some relationship to a man.
On edit: those things you attribute to me re: Sanders
I am supporting Hillary. You attack her I may respond Sanders has nothing to do with it. As far as pissing off Sanders supporters, they need no help from me to get pissed off
I don't give a rat's ass about Sanders supporters. They are old enough to decide how to vote without reacting to what I say.

14. Yes, if they were the same person it would be hard for them to oppose each other.

But you were talking about the horrors of Sanders supporters opposing some of Obama's programs in a large number of your previous posts. Is that still bad now that Clinton is doing it?

Seems some people just can't see a woman as a complete being without some relationship to a man.

Seems like you can't make a post without claiming everyone else is sexist.

You attack her I may respond Sanders has nothing to do with it.

Except you write OPs. Those aren't responses.

13. I wondered how Clinton supporters were going to rationalize her turn around on the TPP.

Similar to her semi-turn around on Fracking. It's too much to hope for getting a mod in the debates that will try to pin her down on her flip-flops. As it's going, the moderators will probably be DWS and Bill Clinton.

She is waffling on this issue and it has nothing to do with her being an "ambitious women", and you using that is inappropriate.
