2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumNew Hillary Email scandal: Hillary forwarded email with identity of CIA intel source.
From Yahoo Politics:
On March 18, 2011, Sidney Blumenthal Clintons longtime friend and political adviser sent the then secretary of state an email to her private account that contained apparently highly sensitive information he had received from Tyler Drumheller, a former top CIA official with whom Blumenthal at the time had a business relationship.
Tyler spoke to a colleague currently at CIA, who told him the agency had been dependent for intelligence from [redacted due to sources and methods], the email states, according to Gowdys letter.
The redacted information was the name of a human source, Gowdy wrote to his Democratic counterpart, Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, and was therefore some of the most protected information in our intelligence community.
Armed with that information, Secretary Clinton forwarded the email to a colleague debunking her claim that she never sent any classified information from her private email address, wrote Gowdy in a letter to Cummings.
Clinton has repeatedly said she never sent or received classified information on her private email server that was marked classified at the time that it was sent or received. But the FBI, at the request of the inspectors general for the intelligence community and the State Department, is investigating the handling of classified information on the private server.
And while there is nothing that indicates that the email from Blumenthal (who was not a government employee) was marked classified at the time Clinton received it, the sensitive nature of its contents should have been a red flag and never should have been passed along, according to a former veteran CIA officer.
She is exposing the name of a guy who has a clandestine relationship with the CIA on her private, unprotected server, said John Maguire, who served for years as one of the CIAs top Mideast officers.
In addition, he noted, the email should trigger a crimes report by the CIA to the Justice Department seeking an investigation into who within the agency revealed the information to Drumheller.
Unless Tyler was blowing smoke, its an unauthorized disclosure of information, said John Rizzo, a former CIA general counsel. And its the most sensitive kind of classified information the identity of a human source. She should have told Blumenthal, delete this and dont send me that again. And then she should have reported it to State Department security.

(26,549 posts)Information is still classified, whether or not it is marked. And this isn't some oddball case where Clinton could reasonably not know it was classified. The email gave out the name of a CIA field agent. And the context was, "This guy is a CIA field agent".
That is obviously TS/SCI to anyone who has ever had an in-briefing for handling classified information. Whether or not the email was marked.
The fact that the Benghazi hearings are a sham does not erase that Clinton mishandled classified information.

(11,366 posts)"Classified" is a governmental term with a special meaning. Even if the data wasn't classified, it could still contain information we don't want others to have.
Most businesses have some trade secrets. Those secrets aren't "classified" in the national security sense of the word, but you wouldn't want you intellectual property all over the Internet. That is "sensitive" or "private" information.

(17,064 posts)By nature, she is secretive and paranoid...that's why she set up a private email server. Then she lied about its existence, and has repeatedly stalled turning over supoenaed info. Had she just come clean from the get-go, this would all be behind her. But she's continued to lie and stall, and cover up. It appears she was discussing sensitive material, but even if she wasn't she continues to act guilty. It's the Clinton way, and if she's elected were gonna see eight whole fucking years of one scandal after another, whether real or contrived.

Cummings Calls for Immediate Release of Mills Interview Transcript
Sep 3, 2015 Press Release
WASHINGTONToday, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the Select Committee on Benghazi, released the following statement after the completion of the Committees transcribed interview of former State Department Chief of Staff, Cheryl Mills:
"After listening to many hours of testimony with Cheryl Mills today, I believe every single American should be able to read this transcript as soon as possible.
"The American people should be able to see for themselves that none of the wild Republican allegations against Secretary Clinton have been substantiated.
"The Secretary did not personally authorize cables that reduced the State Departments security in Libya, and she did not order the military to stand-down, as some have alleged.
"Ms. Mills answered every single question thoroughly, and she handled herself as a consummate professional. I thank her for her service.
"I also believe the Committee should immediately release the transcript of Sidney Blumenthals deposition, but the Chairman has refused to schedule a voteas House Rules requireand instead has insisted on keeping that testimony secret too, even as the Committee selectively leaks other documents out of context.
"Unfortunately, it appears that the Select Committee has shelved its core work on Benghazi to focus almost exclusively on Secretary Clinton and her aides in an effort to attack her bid for president.
"The Committee has not held a single hearing since Januarymore than eight months ago. We were supposed to have hearings with the Defense Department and the intelligence agencies, but we never had them. To be clear, these were hearings the Chairman himself was planning to hold.
"Instead, over the past 16 months, the Committee has spent more than four million dollars, but we have held only three hearings and fewer than 50 interviewsone of the least productive congressional investigations in history.
"This severe misuse of taxpayer resources and Congressional power has done very little to help protect our diplomats around the world."

(44,096 posts)Bernie's the candidate who really resonates with me. Pretty left-liberal here. Hillary was too conservative for me in 2008 compared to Edwards, and now in 2016 compared to Bernie. Simple as that.
I am old enough to remember whitewater, Filegate, the "murder" of Vince Foster, the Clinton's doing cocaine in the Whitehouse, Hillary is a sex-crazed evil lesbian, and their staff removing all the W keys from the keyboards in the White House. Every bit of it made up bullshit.
So I recognize Benghazi/email-ghazi as standard operating procedure for the lying GOP. McCarthy admitted that's what it is. Apparently some DU'ers didn't get the memo?

(9,600 posts)Here is how the GOP does it......
So. Here is the formula.
1. Take one line from an unrelated story from the Daily Mail claiming said "classified" email was really from the Hillary collection at the U.S. Department of State.
2. Let a few hack bloggers and lazy reporters pick up on the phrase "Hillary Clinton emails"
3. Do absolutely no critical thinking or fact-checking
4. Publish it and echo it throughout the lying right-wing chamber until mainstream media outlets pick it up.
The article on the ironically-titled American Thinker blog makes this claim:
This proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that, as my friend Mike Nadler says, she lied in her numerous statements that there were no classified documents on her server, even with her later qualification that none were marked classified at the time."
No, actually what it proves is that there is no speck of bullshit too small for a winger to scoop it up into a little pile and then throw at the Internet to see where it splats.
If you want to make some noise, I suggest you tweet the Daily Mail and demand that they immediately correct their article to remove all references to Hillary Clinton's email server.
