Hillary Clinton meets with prominent leaders of new civil rights movement

Hillary Clinton met with prominent leaders of the new civil rights movement on Friday, including founders of the influential Campaign Zero, telling them she wanted to end the use of private prisons and hinting at the shape her long-awaited policy platform on criminal justice may take.

Members of the delegation told the Guardian that discussions at the Washington DC meeting were productive and wide-ranging, touching on issues from mass incarceration to the policing of protests.

“She (Clinton) was open to being pushed, and I think, in the end, she was reflective,” said DeRay McKesson, a co-founder of Campaign Zero and one of the most high-profile voices to emerge from protests in Ferguson, Missouri beginning last August.

Although Clinton did not provide concrete policy initiatives and gave no indication of when her criminal-justice platform would be announced, McKesson noted she made strident remarks on prison reform.

But that is good she is meeting with them.

We need real dialogue not just "vote for me" kind of stuff and they are pretty savvy.

Hillary met with them during her campaign too... on Oct. 9 according to the OP to which you were responding.

She "did not provide concrete policy initiatives and gave no indication of when her criminal-justice platform would be announced, McKesson noted she made strident remarks on prison reform"

As I've shown, Sanders met with them before she did. He's already introduced a comprehensive bill in Congress to address the issues.

So exactly how is she leading the pack? She's not done it time-wise or policy-wise. Give me some particulars to back up your ridiculous assertions.

Whatever little amusement I've gotten from your many head-scratching posts, it's time to say buh-bye.

Pointing out the flaws in their reasoning and moving on is the best course of action with some posters.

Sept. 17 -- Bernie Sanders Unveils Ambitious Plan To End Private Prisons

In addition to overhauling private prisons, the act calls for the reinstatement of federal parole guidelines for eligible prisoners to be released prior to completing their sentences. It eliminates the requirement that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) meet a 34,000 bed quota, which leads to the detention and abuse of undocumented immigrants to the financial benefit of prison corporations like GEO and CCA. And it also mandates the regulation of video and telephone services in correctional facilities, which overcharge inmates to the benefit of staff and corporate entities.
With this bill, Sanders is further positioning himself as one of the staunchest proponents of criminal — and racial — justice in the presidential race, setting himself apart from Democratic and Republican candidates alike.
Facing mounting pressure from Black Lives Matter activists, who interrupted two of his press events this summer, Sanders unveiled a comprehensive racial justice platform in August, emphasizing state-sanctioned violence against communities of color and specific policies to fix the broken justice system. In addition to outlawing private prisons, Sanders also favors banning the box to minimize job discrimination against convicted felons, restoring voting rights for convicted felons, eliminating mandatory minimum sentences and putting greater emphasis on prison diversion programs. On Wednesday, Sanders met with Black Lives Matter activists to discuss future policy.
Sanders’ strong emphasis on state-backed violence and law enforcement’s role in it sets him apart from his immediate competition.

Hillary's plan so far... "strident remarks." From the OP's link:
On Thursday, an immigration activist interrupted Clinton at an event in Washington DC to protest against her accepting campaign money from corporations that run private prisons, which are used to detain thousands of migrants. A report by the Intercept found that two of Clinton’s top fundraisers were lobbyists for the largest private prison companies in the US.
