CNNs Dana Bash grilled DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz Sunday morning on whether the Democratic Partys chances of keeping the White House in 2016 would be diminished if Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) won the partys nomination.
In particular, Bash asked if the fact that Sanders identifies as a socialist would drive some voters away from voting Democratic in 2016. Wasserman Schultz did not specifically answer the question, and instead focused her response on the GOP.
Any one of our candidates on that stage on Tuesday night
is in dramatic contrast to any of the Republican circus candidates circus performers that are on the other side, Wasserman Schultz said, highlighting causes that Democrats support.
Pressed further by Bash on whether Sanders could top any of the Republican candidates, Wasserman Schultz insisted that all of the Democratic Partys hopefuls will stand in stark contrast with the GOP, and said she is confident that a Democrat will be elected president in 2016, regardless of who wins the partys nomination.

Your reply is definitely DUzy material, though. Thanks for injecting a little humour into DU - it's been sorely lacking for too long.

(19,326 posts)DWS is actually acting like she wants whoever the Dem nominee is, to WIN the GE.
Good on Debbie, for doing her job.

(19,326 posts)Dissing and under-estimating Bernie is NOT standing up to close scrutiny with
Democratic voters who are not only paying attention, but are Feeling the Bern.
Who knows? Honestly, it's anyone's guess what's going on here, but I'm more
than willing to give credit where credit is due. Just maybe the proverbial worm

(30,439 posts)I don't think Debbie has ever dissed Bernie.
I don't recall her saying anything negative about him.
The DNC has welcomed him even though he's not a member of the party.

(19,326 posts)If that was not obvious to you, it was/is to a lot of Democratic voters, including me.

(30,439 posts)I actually think fewer debates helps both Bernie and Hillary, but hurts O'Malley.
The fact remains she hasn't dissed Bernie. She hasn't said anything bad about him.

Nice doesn't make things better. It doesn't rock the boat or change anything. Nice is a pat on the head.

moobu2
(4,822 posts)and Debbie Wasserman Schultz is the Democratic National Committee chair not The American Independent Party Chair. Bernie Sanders is running a 3rd Party campaign, he's just using the Democratic Party to give his campaign some legitimacy it wouldn't have had if he had run like Ralph Nader. Bernie Sanders has even said so himself. Why would Debbie Wasserman Schultz bend over backwards to help ruin any hopes of getting a real Democrat elected? Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat he's running "AS A DEMOCRAT" in the democratic primary.

(27,813 posts)... doesn't make you a Democrat - especially when you have steadfastly refused to be one, which BS has.

(15,558 posts)I really don't understand the irrational, quasi-religious devotion to these labels. Why is it so important? I'm supporting a candidate defined by word, deed, and character. You know, the meaningful stuff.

(4,822 posts)so to compare him with president Obama is illogical.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)He is participating in DNC sanctioned debates as a Democrat. Furthermore, he has consistently voted with and caucused with Democrats.
I wasn't comparing him to the success of Obama - I was comparing him to what defeated Hillary in 2008.
moobu2
(4,822 posts)As a Democrat is the key phrase there. Bernie Sanders is using the Democratic Party to give his hopless 3rd party candidacy some legitimacy it wouldn't have had if he had run as a 3rd party candidate. He said that himself. He is not a Democrat.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)open their eyes that Democratic voters are tired of their feces, why would I be concerned in the slightest?
O'Malley has chops, he just hasn't gotten the name recognition yet. Sanders is going to say exactly what he has always said.
That scares the hell out of Clinton. It's what she did in around 2008.
If you believe the multi (He doesn't do well with PoC, He is in the pocket of the NRA, He didn't believe in gay marriage before Hillary did, and he's a flake) mud slinging and shit stirring strategy, go for it.
I've heard all of that shit echoed about as long as Sanders announced his running.
I weigh toward Sanders, but I wouldn't have to hold my nose to vote for O'Malley -Hell, I'd be thrilled to work for either as a volunteer for their GE campaign.
I'll stay with candidates that can both win, and win it with their integrity intact.
