2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhat will happen with the Jewish vote in 2016?
I am just curious to know if the Jewish population will come out for Hillary or will it be split between Bernie and herself?

(130,134 posts)FWIW I'm from New York, lived in Brooklyn til 9 years old, then L.I., Jewish, a few years younger than Bernie, and I support Martin O'Malley.

It seems apparent that we - the "Jewish vote" - have a tendency to wander off the beaten path.

(130,134 posts)No wandering here, solid progressive.

(29,257 posts)I guess it is stupid to talk about the "Jewish vote" as a monolith.

(27,813 posts)We meet at a reputable (meaning they serve big portions) deli once a month, dine on over-priced tepid soup (which we complain about), and discuss who we're ALL going to vote for.

(27,813 posts)... I despise lox, and would be tempted to kill anyone who put a schmear of disgusting cream cheese on a perfectly good bagel.
R. Daneel Olivaw
(12,606 posts)No cream cheese.
Lox is overrated.
Commonalities.

Just slap me some sólet and I go nuts for it.
R. Daneel Olivaw
(12,606 posts)Pesto. No red sauce.
I've never had sólet, but it looks hearty.
Lox and onions in scrambled eggs. There's nothing better.

(42,374 posts)Sort of like the non-Jewish voters.
When it gets to the general election, I suspect most Jewish voters, as in the past, will support the Democratic party candidate as they have in the past, if for no other reason than that they understand as well as anyone the threat posed by a Supreme Court appointed by any of the potential repub candidates. WHich is something some of the my candidate or no one crew on DU ought to think about.

For Hillary it they hold the Benghazi card and the e-mail cards and the anti-Clinton card.

(8 posts)Unfortunately. You see, they side with the right-wingers who hate gay marriage, abortion, etc. They also seem to think that Republicans love Israel more than Democrats. My Orthodox relatives and I have an agreement to never talk politics, though it does sometimes come out and the discussion is never pretty. I personally am leaning toward Bernie Sanders, but I'll vote for any Democrat over the insane nut jobs running on the Republican ticket.

(1,209 posts)Israel strongly enough, take that to outright sedition by inviting Netanyahu in to tell President Obama how to protect Netanyahu's fanny then follow that up with a letter to Iran signed by 47 Republican Senators.
Now, a Jewish man is running for President. What could be more interesting than guessing how that will play in their attack dialog.
Especially when a visit through conservative websites and radio will reveal all that anti-Jewish Jewish banker/Jews rule the world conspiracies and hoo ha and foolery.

(53,831 posts)It would have to be modified from the "Christ killer" slur, but it wouldn't take much tinkering. People get very creative with their anti-Semitism. There will be lots of deaf dogs soon.

they have shown many times that support for israel has nothing to d with support for jewish people. in fact they wish the jews in the US would all leave for israel.

(62,444 posts)One couple I know are solid Trump supporters. A few others are Hillary leaners. And several others are fine with "whoever is the nominee".
That's the round up from my small sample.

(71,265 posts)Park, and the jewish sections of Williamsburg will go for Hillary but secular Jews in Brooklyn will be in play.
Places in north eastern Brooklyn might ge a Sanders stronghold but the rest of the borough will overwhelm his support there.

(12,081 posts)Jewish President, while Hillary mentioned a few times that she would be the first women President. Both she and I cringed every time she brought that up. I do not vote based on gender or religion. I vote based on policy position and voting records.

I am Jewish and I could honestly say that many cars in the parking lot at might synagogue have Bernie bumper stickers (no HRC ones yet) .... but my synagogue is in Burlington VT, not a very representative place on this, and some are stickers from long ago Senate races! )
