But seriously, Chaffee was obviously out of place. more than anyone else. I am not sure who his supporters are, but I am sure there must be at least one here.

Some media talking head asks questions and the candidates answer them, or try to. There is little or no follow-up and the candidates don't really get to debate each other. It's impossible to declare a real winner; any candidate who doesn't commit a major gaffe and manages to explain his/her positions reasonably effectively can be said to have "won." On ths basis both Clinton and Sanders won. The only way to "lose" one of these fake debates is to say something seriously stupid or otherwise look like an unelectable ass. Under these criteria one might fairly say Chafee and Webb "lost." O'Malley didn't screw up but he didn't do anything to gain traction so maybe you could say he lost, too. These non-debates are better than nothing, I guess, since the candidates get a chance for the public to hear what they have to say, but they are not true win-lose events in the sense of scoring a real debate. Who really "won," in particular, is highly subjective.

I ended up watching the debate and being surprised at how different the media reactions were to mine. I thought Hillary was fake and ducked a lot of the questions, while the media ate that up with a spoon. I thought Anderson was awful. He cut off everyone except Hillary mid-sentence. I thought O'Malley won easily with how little time he was given to speak. And I felt bad for Chafee and slightly scared of Webb.

We knew we were going to be late because of another commitment.. and time just got the better of us.. but talked to one of the O'Malley people the next day or day after and there were 22 there which is a great number in our area!!.. Had to catch it on the reruns.. I heard all this spin before I caught it how Gov. O'Malley did not do what he needed to do.. and after I listened to the debate, I was wondering if they were listening to the same debate I was..

just had to go out and check out the crows. Too damn bad I'm retired and have little to do except read. Sure wish 'the media' weren't so prominent.

FYI, and you've probably seen this, Nationally ranked college debaters from the College of William/Mary graded the 5 Dem candidates

From NPR's All Things Considered

http://www.npr.org/2015/10/14/448697137/how-did-the-democrats-do-in-their-first-debate-college-debaters-weigh-in

Conclusion: Hands raised for O'Malley, 3, 6, 9, 13, it was unanimous, Martin O'Malley. "He stuck to the issues the most", the group said, "and he probably changed the most minds." " I don't think anyone who was not going to vote for Hillary before is voting for Hillary now. I think the same thing happened for Bernie. I think the only person who made any relative gains was Martin O'Malley."
