Why Romney/Ryan suck
It all boils down to one question: Who’s fault is it?
Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan and many others somehow believe that it’s somehow that 9th grade teacher’s fault who is struggling with a hundred and fifty 14-year-olds a day, working very hard to get them to actually learn to read and write and think. They think it is the staff in the county clerk’s office processing deed transfers, or the dispatchers in the police department because they earn a salary and have benefits and a union. They think it’s the cops who are now forced to arrest the unemployed and homeless living in the streets. They think it’s the greedy ‘associates’ at places like Walmart and Target who wear the embarrassing red or blue smocks and greet their friends and neighbors with an awkward smile, having transitioned recently to those wonderful establishments from a real job that Romney, or his corporate associates sent to China.
These guys think the problem with America is that lazy-assed, good-for-nothing work-a-day stiffs who don’t have the gumption to make it, and that therefore they should be paid, or not paid, accordingly. They think that we all make too much money and have too many benefits and that those benefits and wages and pensions are taking away from them, just like their terrible tax burden is taking away from them.
Worse, they think that people with very few means or capacity are to blame. The old, the infirm, the incompetent, the frail and those harmed by society that end up that way, are to blame. Even the returning injured veterans. They think those unfortunate people represent a drag on America, and we need to limit the way our society provides them comfort and sustenance.
That’s the America that Ayn Rand might have liked, and the America Mitt and Paul seem to see, but its not the vision that is going to help us make a better America.
Many of us with a better perspective think the hard working majority of people struggle to earn their keep and succeed in doing so.
Many of us want instead to blame the financial industry, the transnational corporations, the damn military industry and its killing machines and their need to sell them globally. We want to blame the bastards like Romney who buy our jobs and sell our souls and then refuse to pay their fair share. We want to blame Paul Ryan who wants to sell our lost jobs and pensions and benefits and social security and Medicare to the wall street con artists who have caused so much pain of late.
I think we need to describe who is really to blame here. And we need to keep shouting it from the mountaintops.
But more, we need to figure out how to actually fix the damn mess that Mitt and Paul and their ilk have created, and I’m damn sure its not the plan they propose.
