2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumJust saw a clip of Biden on CNN saying he likes Republicans
Republicans are his "friends" - he can work with them.
Didn't we just get over years of reaching across the aisle? Jezus Joe, just STFU. That's what we all want, more working with the other side, we all saw how well that worked out. Republicans might be your friends Joe but they sure as hell are not mine.
My hat's off to our Canadian friends tonight - Goodbye Harper, you piece of sleeze.

(9,688 posts)It's "bipartisanship" with an extreme right way of thinking.
It calls the left "retards".
It openly despises the left. But it says it's "bipartisan", it "works across the aisle". That's it's selling point, the point that supposedly makes it "most electable".
As if there were an aisle to cross.

(19,326 posts)This, on top of Biden's coy drawn-out "is he or isn't he running" gaming the M$M's eagerness
to air ANYthing BUT issues voters deeply care about, issues that effect their lives & livelihoods,
issues that Bernie is putting front & center, but M$M barely notices, by design, to try to
marginalize his amazing historic campaign into the weeds for as long as possible, hoping
he'll start "peaking" at some point, and lose momentum.
But Bernie faithfully trudges onward, inch by inch, in all his humility and graciousness, looking
better every day, as voters are being massively educated, by a genuinely people's revolutionary
political campaign.
Go Bernie!!!! Joe? not so much.

(62,325 posts)Who advises these politicians on what voters want to hear?
Because at the top of the list of what most Democrats I know DON'T WANT is anymore reaching and reaching and leaning and being dragged over to the other side of the aisle.
Have Dems ever though of the amazing notion that if THEY win an election, the reaching should come from the losers?
I guess not, which is why they lost the House and Senate.
And they still haven't learned?
Either that or it's all just political theater, being played out among members of he small club we don't belong to.
I know it is between Donald Trump and Hillary who are good friends, really, they actually ARE.

Sanders has tried to tell people he's not a liberal, but no one wants to hear him.

Im not a liberal. Never have been. Im a progressive who mostly focuses on the working and middle class.

(99,704 posts)HRC was being hyperbolic when she said Republicants are the enemy. That being said I believe there has to be better ways for Joe to create space between her and him by him saying he likes them.
Anything can happen... As the God fearing folks say, "God hates soothsayers"... I don't see this ending well for him...Hoping your opponent implodes is not a recipe for success.

(62,325 posts)supposed naïve voters. I know people who work for all these extremely wealthy politicians. They cater their cocktail parties eg. Trust me, they are all 'friends'.
They are very, very removed from the American people.
They do, really, think we are not too bright.
Because IF we were we would be a part of their club also.
For them the litmus test for how smart someone is, is the size of their bank account.
And yes, they all intermingle in their Southampton estates, in the summer, and in their Park Ave apts in NYC in the winter.
Donald and Hillary are part of that wealthy NY 'class'.
Enemy? Lol, sure! Tell us another.

(62,325 posts)least Trump was honest about it. They attend each others weddings and cocktail parties as he said. You can check the more public intermingling in the Social sections of the newspapers.
Guest lists for their Social Events, which are mostly Fund Raisers at their private residences, include only those with huge Bank Accounts.
Trump is a very sought after guest at such events.
As he said, when asked why he donated to Clinton's campaign AND the Dem Party in NY, 'I spend my money where it benefits me the most and in NY that would be with Democrats'. He went on to say that it pays off, because he when he 'needs something all he has to do is pick up the phone' and it gets done.
That is exactly how it works.
It's not a secret. I don't know why you are attempting to deny it. All you have to do if you can't actually BE THERE, is to look at the local Hamptons Social coverage in the Summer to see who has been at whose luxurious home.
Or better yet, ask those work at these events.

(135,425 posts)Business is business.
I doubt Bloomberg would give that jerk the time of day. Bloomberg doesn't declare bankruptcy every five minutes and he has 'real' assets. Also, he spends more time in Bermuda than he does in USA nowadays, and he just bought yet another home in London.
As for Clinton, she's been kind of busy lately, and even before that, when she had a government j-o-b, she didn't have time to fart around with that asshole.
She was invited to his wedding eons ago and she went--hell, I think he's the biggest jerk on the planet but if I got invited to that freak show I'd go too.
I think the fact that you're trying to gin up an association is what's a bit sad. If they were such good buds, there'd be tons of pics of them together--the only shots people can come up with are the wedding ones from years ago. It's like the Clinton/Kissinger awards ceremony shots--when ya got nothin, ya got nothin.
smh.

Biden is not a good candidate. The movie will do him no favors (and on that Anita Hill business, he does not deserve any).

(135,425 posts)Does he seriously not understand how this will impact him? Scooter Libby's WIFE was working for him, and helping to stuff the corroborating witnesses under the bus to smooth the path for Clarence.
That was probably Biden's lowest moment in his entire political career. He showed himself in a very poor light. He didn't endear himself to a lot of traditional Democratic constituencies with that idiotic attitude he took.

(135,425 posts)They could probably have it ready to roll fairly soon. It's being done by HBO--not sure if they are going to air it on their platform or do a theatrical release. If I had to guess I'd say they'll do limited theater and then stick it on the home screen, but who knows?
It has a KILLER cast. It's going to be good if the script is even halfway decent. Nothing like the truth to make a compelling story.

(57,936 posts)with Republicans while in the Obama administration?
I'm not looking for a president who will work well with today's Republican Party.
I'm looking for a president who will convert Republicans into Democrats so that our country can deal with its problems.
That's Bernie.
He's the only one that I think can ultimately convert Republicans into Democrats.
And how can he do that?
By raising the cap on Social Security.
Most Republicans rely on Social Security or will when they retire. Republicans want to kill the program. Hillary offers retirement accounts on Wall Street.
Bernie has a plan to fund Social Security for our children and grandchildren.
Feel the Bern!

(41,600 posts)I wonder why they call themselves Democrats. They sure don't act like Democrats and they sure as hell haven't gone out of their way to push a Liberal agenda for the last 35 years.
Yeah, didn't GW say Hillary was like a "sister-in-law?" Now, if that's not an eye opener, I don't know what is. Waaaaaaay too cozy with the convicted WAR CRIMINAL.
