2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI'll support Hillary if she's the nominee. But it'll be real hard to give a damn beyond dread of GOP
The only damn I'll really give is that ever-present dread of the GOP taking over. So I'll root for her to beat the GOP's nominated bully.
But beyond that? Screw it.

(1,209 posts)she is not going to be much better than another Republican with a Democratic name, like Capitulating Bill Clinton.

(1,209 posts)Libertarian? I signed in only a couple of years ago and was shocked that a site calling itself Democratic was so completely libertarian controlled, operating under the label, progressive.

(47,803 posts)It's always been a feisty place with competing in philosophy. It tends to get more heated up around primary and election time.

(7,820 posts)Of Hillary getting the nomination. I was a Clinton supporter back in the day- in fact, he was the first President I voted for and volunteered for. And Goddess knows I'd love to see our first female President. And she's certainly brilliant and accomplished. But I look at what's happening to our country and I genuinely despair at the idea of us continuing the status quo- and that's what we'll get with her. And her supporters are making it harder and harder every day to envision coming together once the primaries are over.

(47,803 posts)Clinton will be subtly awful. Any of the GOPers will be "in your face" abusive.

(14,524 posts)But I also refuse to settle. That's what got us here.
Armstead
(47,803 posts)I'm 63, seen the "settling" strategy being trotted out every election for decades. This, alas, is just the latest iteration.
But also seen the GOP get worse and worse. In part I blame the Demoicrats for that becaue we have "settled" too often rather than actually taking it to them. But still in all, I guess I still have to choose awful over awfuller.

(47,803 posts)But I'm also one of those unfortunate people for whom public issues feel personal too. My own life could be peaches and cream, and the bigger picture will still bug me on a visceral level. Over the years I've learned to turn it off and on better, but...
(I'm guessing most DUers are the same way.)

(34,105 posts)one exception that has me saying I will vote for her (although daily I say to myself no way) SCOTUS. As a woman I do trust her to not nominate someone who will further erode women's rights. I hope that trust is not misplaced, it is the one issue I actually do trust her with. I hope she will consider women in all issues but the interview with Warren about the bankruptcy bill stopped me short.

(47,803 posts)People want change. For the non-partisans, if its a GOP status quo politician vs a Democratic status quo politician, I think the instinct for change will favor the GOP

(1,903 posts)I won't vote for her is if the superdelegates go against the people's vote in the primary.
