2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBreaking News: Bernie slept in a bed last night while thousands of homeless go without one.
He also had the audacity to eat breakfast while thousands go hungry.
Bernie continues to make a mockery of this campaign by engaging in such activities. How can his supporters claim to be true Democrats when he acts like this?

Bernie Sanders is running as a Democrat. Even your DNC has agreed he is a Democrat... Or he wouldn't be invited to the debates...
So, take the anti-populist message somewhere else.

(5,714 posts)A lot of people aren't even aware of the midterms. Lack of media attention?
And let's not forget that President Obama has a special connection with and significance for people and communities of color that most other Democratic pols simply don't have. Hard to replicate that.
All people who can vote, and don't face obstacles to voting, should vote. Midterms, state, local. etc. And also, encourage and support GOTV efforts, voter registration, etc. among people who face a lot of obstacles to voting (poor people, PoC, etc.) The stakes are too damn high.

One can't deny that Sanders is much more of a FDR style Dem than Hillary is.
You can bring up the Brady bill all you wish but I'll bring up Iraq. Now which has caused more deaths? Touche.
We can literally out things up side by side and it's completely evident.
Let's start with Hillary opposing single payer and going from there.
And I'd love to see you defend Hillary's comments about DOMA which isn't standing up to fact checking. Bernie voted against it.
This says it all.

(14,255 posts)not mentioned. The slimy spin is getting deeper, and I do not see the point, because it will not gain even one more vote for Hillary, here at DU. I think maybe just having the OP headline show up in searches is the point, so yeah, I would be careful there. Or else it is just innate nastiness, given free rein during this ugly primary season. The outraged and petulant authoritarianism is getting funny, too - how DARE other people not do what I tell them to do!
Bwahahaha! is all I can really say to that stuff, any more.

(14,255 posts)liberal candidates that she can, and refusing to campaign for fellow Dems because that would offend her GOP BFFs?
Third Way Democrats are working to rebuild the party from within. That Third Way-advised New Democrat Coalition is "rebuilding" the Democratic party, and for some of us, the Democratic Party has oozed so far to the right that we do not feel we can be a part of it. For me, that started with Obama choosing a homophobic asshole, Rick warren, to give the convocation at his inauguration. And then appointing the Third Way, Wall Street guys to his cabinet. Rahm calling liberals "retarded".
If that is being a True Democrat, then I cannot support it. It is becoming just a letter on a jersey, used for fund-raising and voting purposes, not standing for anything but Not as bad.

(49,327 posts)I was dissatisfied with candidates or some of the choices they made. At no time did I believe the GOP offered a better alternative. It's a give and take Democratic Party in a give and take world.
True Democrats have the ability to see the big picture and keep on working to make conditions better for everyone.
djean111
(14,255 posts)If a Patrick Murphy can switch from GOP to Dem, in 2012, just to run against another GOPer, no change of heart or anything, and then basically still act like a repub a LOT of the time (he voted yes, one of three dems, on whether to establish the Benghazi committee) - then he has helped to dilute the Democratic Party down to just a "D". Maybe you would have to be aware of how Debbie DINO manipulates things here in Florida to favor Third Way candidates. The Third Way advises that New Democrat Coalition, they have not gone anywhere. They feel Elizabeth Warren has "gotten out of hand". They are in charge, and they are rebuilding - to the right. That "true Democrat" thing has gotten mighty bendy, and is starting to cover a lot of things I don't like about the current Party. Has NOTHING to do with only "candidates or some of the choices they made".
Unless you feel that merely not being an actual Republican is being a "True Democrat" - following the party line to the right with no complaint or consideration. More and more, this cannot hold. The younger folks, especially, are "deeds not words" people. They look stuff up, they see how they are affected. They do not buy tickets to the Kabuki Theater of today's politics, they do not think things will get better if we keep on electing Corporate and/or Third Way types of politicians.. it is their boots on the ground when we hear about a "more muscular" foreign policy, it is their inability to get a decent job without college or the alternative - graduate, still not find a good job, and be so crippled with debt that they cannot buy a house or whatever. Campaign promises and party platforms mean nothing to them. Because they have seen how that goes.
