'If Bernie's going to beat Clinton it's bc people don't want a 3rd Obama term.' -- Sanders strategist Tad Devine https://soundcloud.com/bostonherald/tad-devine-joins-herald-drive

This is a gaffe. This is the second time a Sanders connected person has made this type of statement. In August, the Executive Director of NNU, which has endorsed Sanders, said:

if you raise a PoC or you talk with PoC or you have a friend who is PoC. The thread is about Bernie not wanting a 3rd term. Does that mean what? Do people "Want their country back from him? The Banks? Foreign Policy? That's open to interpretation.
Please clarify for me, from a guy who wanted to primary Obama. What exactly is it about an Obama's America (given to Congress he and others will have to work with), does he think is so disastrous and he needs to change so badly?

Get to the root of problems.

Which is basically what Sanders is saying.

That would be preferable than a futile effort to revive the shiny surface of the 1990's.

I also think Sanders and some of his supporters do respect Obama and the job he has done. It isn't as absolute as is seems here sometimes. I believe building off the success of Obama will win the day. Sanders can't change any verbiage at this point so that mantle will go to Hillary.

we're done with centerist, corporatist third way dinos. just done.

i said it before, i'll say it again. april 30th, 2015 a paradigm shift happened. something better came along that has rendered clinton, obama, pretty much the entirety of the dem congress wholly inadequate and second rate.

why? because i have standards.

see, sanders can't even claim 100% progressive cred, but he's in a different universe than any other dems, so if they want my money and my votes in the future there damn well better be a shit ton of endorsements of him and a stampede to his left forthwith.

I don't agree with that assessment. It's way too simplistic. But they say Obama should have fought harder for single payer, gun control, an update of Glass-Stiegel, etc. I'm no worried about a third term of Obama. I'm more concerned that Clinton will not be as progressive as Obama, will be more hawkish on foreign policy, etc. In other words, eight years of Obama-Minus. I guess we'll find out.

They are more likely to elect a Republican.

Third terms for parties are very rare.

This fits the revolutionary rhetoric Sanders uses. It also means that Some of Sanders people wish to distance Sanders from the President.

“Clinton can say, ‘Listen, I’m my own person. As secretary of state I went against the president on some issues, and I’m not running for a third Obama term, I’m running for a first Clinton term,’” Dickinson said. “Well, a first Hillary Clinton term.”

http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/oct/22/loyal-biden-embraces-president-obama-legacy-whats-hillarys-excuse

What Devine said "IF Bernie is going to beat Hillary it is going to be because people want not a 3rd Obama term, but a first Sander's term. They want some really fundamental change in this country. They want someone who is going to take on a rigged economy which is held in place by a corrupt system of campaign funding....."
