Exactly why you think its important that you were right first, Maddow asked Sanders, pushing him to distinguish himself from his rivals.
Maddow then pressed Sanders on his refusal to back Vermonts move to legalize same-sex marriage while running for Senate in 2006.
My view was, give us a little bit of time, Sanders explained, pointing to political contention among the electorate.
Isnt that the same kind of tactical thinking, the same kind of political pragmatism, that may have driven the decision for which you criticized Secretary Clinton, Maddow pushed-back.

(5,204 posts)Are you going to claim O'Malley was against SSM for his first 5 years as governor because he waited until the 6th year to pass it?

(45,319 posts)Hillary. All the OP's about how anti gay Hillary is come from Straight people supporting Bernie. Randy, you have at least two on the subject right now. These posts all seek to tell us all about history we actually lived and none of them ask.
DU is asking for a trip down memory lane. Many people here affecting great support and concern for the LGBT community who have in the past taken entirely different positions. One poster attacking Bernie on LGBT rights actually said on DU that she opposed marriage equality because of the Bible, which 'does speak negatively about homosexuality'. I'd happily make a link review if you want. The 'you people want a pony' posters, the 'poutrage' people, the 'half a loaf pragmatists', the current Hillary supporter who blamed LGBT for the 2014 election loss 'flaunting their marriage rights brazenly'.
The sense of entitlement is stunning.

Sanders is NOT anti-gay.
Hillary is NOT anti-gay.

(7,865 posts)Deny your opponents strengths with smears. Bernie really is well ahead of the game on this one and always has been even to his political detriment. That is the real difference.

(28,749 posts)Hillary stood on stage and said "No" to gay marriage. There is no "rovian theme"... Honestly you need to get your stories straight.
All our candidates evolved on this issue, and trust me it SUCKS that we don't have a candidate who stood up and said "Gay Marriage NOW" but we don't.
None of our people did that.

(1,464 posts)She gave Hillary a puff piece interview where she let Hillary lie on all sorts of issues and then she attacks Bernie. I expect her to be brutal to O'Malley cutting him off, etc. while just nodding sagely at whatever BS Hillary spews.
