I think the Repugs realize that they won't win the GE in Nov. That explains the clown car of candidates they put up for this year. They don't want to waste their more promising like Jebbie or Christe until 2016. Romney seems to me that he's too stupid to realize this and he has deluded himself and thinks he has a shot at the Presidency. Actually the Repugs will nominate him this time around and
make him a sacrificial lamb and allow him to be labeled a loser to get him out of the way so as he will not be a factor for 2016.
Romney is the throwaway candidate.

1. Lots of reasons for this.

Serious global strife is coming. Anyone paying attention knows it. The GOP doesn't want to be at the helm when it happens. It goes against their "don't tax the rich" message, and they'll be completely discredited if the world collapses on their watch. Best to let that young negro boy take the blame for the shit they are helping to bring about. It's their best chance at winning in 2016.

2. I have said this consistently over the past few months both here & in my private conversations

What we have (and will for a bit continue to) been seeing is just a media show in a general attack upon Obama.

The GOP does not really want to win in 2012, they are looking for 2016 when it's an open seat.

The money types have really picked Obama for the next term & Romney is a place holder. The only thing to watch is who he picks as his #2 as the set up to 2016. I don't think it will be Christie or Jeb although he may very well do so.

Although of course, they will put in the effort, because if they win they'll certainly take it. But they are looking at 2016.
