2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie's campaign is not in trouble
because his campaign is not like Hlllary's campaign, a personal quest for achievement and power, that cannot run on its own issues and ideas. So it runs on Bernie's issues and ideas while attempting to swiftboat him in a contemptible manner that would make Karl Rove and Lee Atwater proud.
Hillary's campaign, even if she wins, will just be more of the same, more income inequality, more bad trade policies, and more support for her big donors at the expense of working people and the middle class. If she wins, she will be remembered as the first woman president but for little else except that her third-way neo-liberal pro-corporate policies continued the downfall and hallowing out of the American working and middle classes.
Bernie's campaign's is a campaign fighting for our very democracy and to win for every American their universal right to healthcare, a job, a livable wage, a free college education, and the right to retire and live in dignity. His campaign is also fighting to save the environment and for all of the other important issues and policies that can be viewed on Bernie's website:
https://berniesanders.com/issues/
Bernie's campaign is not merely a campaign but a movement. it is not based on an egotistical desire to be President but is based on the goals mentioned above: to right our democracy, to achieve universal rights for the American people, and to achieve the issues and policies discussed on Bernie's website. The quickest way to achieve these things would be to elect Bernie President. But win or lose, Bernie and his movement will continue to fight until they win their goals.

(631 posts)If you are convinced that Hillary will actually stand behind her latest positions borrowed from Bernie, then vote for her (per Bernie's latest interview with Charlie Rose).
On the other hand, you could vote for Bernie directly. I think that Presidential decisions are too important to be borrowed from poll tested formulas.

He has no ego, he is never political, but just ALWAYS right, and he has achieved so much in his 40 political career, there is nothing left to be done, except elect him, that is how powerful he is. He is just the wonderful of wonderful. He is perfect. There is NOTHING to be improved upon. He isn't in this for himself at all, he is only in it for you, he is a politician unlike any politician this WORLD has ever seen. He does nothing wrong. He is the bestest of the best. He is the cream of the crop. He will win the presidency with just 25% of the vote a true MIRACLE. You'll never witness anything like it in your life. Jump on board the Bernie train, true salvation!

(10,056 posts)Maybe, maybe not in the primary. But one thing is for sure, Clinton can't win without Sanders supporters in the general election.
So if you all are so sure about a cruise to victory in the primary, then maybe start thinking ahead to the general, and quit pissing all over Sanders supporters whose votes will be sorely needed.
Deliberately suppressing the Democratic turnout in the general will spell disaster for the country and the Party.

(3,859 posts)Conversely, HRC supporters claiming they will 'sit it out' if she's not the nominee show their true colors as not-so-liberal / progressive Dems, doesn't it?
It reveals that they really were part of the cult of personality rather than being in it because of her policies or what a HRC Presidency would do for the greater good.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)She has to win the swing states. And all of them are rural/urban divide states where she needs to energize the urban vote to overcome the rural voters.
The only voters Clinton energizes are the Republicans.

(6,604 posts)Why all the hand wringing every time a Sanders supporter says he or she won't vote for Clinton then?
Not that there are a lot of them, but hell, if your statement were even remotely true, there'd be no reason to raise a peep if every Sanders supporter said the same thing.
Your statement is ludicrous, and you know it.

What has the Hillary campaign done that is anywhere near what Atwater and Rove did? And why is it that everyone else..yes, even the GOP candidates ..can run for the Presidency for noble reasons and Hillary is the only now who is running for a "personal quest of achievement and power?"
This woman was in the trenches before many of the Sanders supporters were out of diapers. It is just insane for any who call themselves Democrats to demean her in this way. You don't have to like her or even support her but some of this shit is beyond reason.

(28,270 posts)My own feeling is that the Democratic Party is ideologically bankrupt.
We have to ask ourselves, Why should we work within the Democratic Party if we dont agree with anything the Democratic Party says?
Can Bernie Sanders Win the Love of a Party He Scorns?
The long, troubled history of Bernie Sanders and the 'ideologically bankrupt' party whose White House nod he now seeks.

Its all a scam on Bernies part if you ask me. We will know for sure when Hillary wins the nomination and Bernie turns his back on us and walks away. I fully expect him and 90% of his backers to do this.
We already got a preview of this with their walkout at the JJ dinner.

Help me out here, cause I seriously don't get it. WHY do we have 18 fook'd months of this nonsense? Seriously. We need to have the airwaves saturated with such nonsense as "someone on a campaign payroll said something stupid"? Really? How relevant. Even with the loud mouth, egotistical ass hole...he said anything that wasn't offensive or had more substance than being a punchline to a racist joke? Come on America.
It's a damn long way to the finish line. The last election had a different clown out front for the repuKKKe dog bone every week. This year is different, but just as irrelevant. The Democrats have only 3, and really only two serious contenders.
I'm not ready to concede to HRC.....yet.

(15,435 posts)it's a campaign that actually wants to include "we the people" and as stated a MOVEMENT to better this broken, splintered country!! It's not ALL about HIM, it's about us and it's up to US to fight NOW because it's the REAL DEAL! If we let TPTB roll over us again my kids and grandkids are going to be looking straight into THE NEW WORLD ORDER! I may be gone, but I will have left without doing what my father taught me all my life. Try to leave this world a better place for those who come after.
As a woman I'm highly insulted that so many think ALL of us are buying the semi "I am a Woman, Hear Me Roar" crap right now! As each day goes by and she's dancing her little dervishes that ring so hollow to my ears, I'm becoming more and more upset and I'm basically insulted! I've pretty much been able to stay away from MSM so I don't have to listen to so many other woman "gush" everything Hillary. Still I hear it, I see it here and it isn't making me feel good in ANY way. I have no reason to think that her election will bring ANY change because I'm having a hard time believing another form of Hillary.
THIS HILLARY isn't the same from last time, not the same as she was when she ran for Senator and a person who I find about as genuine as a TWO DOLLAR BILL! And yes a $2 bill exists so it's a reference in case anyone wants to make a big deal about it. I honestly don't want to feel this way about her and at times tell myself not to listen to that tiny voice in the back of my head, but the voice won't go away.
So I sit looking at this screen pouring out my thoughts to those who think as I do, then gather together with those of us who are willing to be his boots on the ground and spread his message.

(1,561 posts)I don't understand why anyone would vote for her unless, of course, you are happy with the status quo. The middle class is being decimated. Income inequality is at its highest since the Great Depression, and she think the biggest problem facing us is nuclear arms in Iran. Absolute bonkers.
