"The homophobia was for your own good!"

That is, in essence, what Hillary Clinton just laid down in front of LGBT people.

I thought we were done with this in 2008, that in a land of marriage equality, we wouldn't have to be sitting here rehashing acceptable homophobia with Democratic candidates.

Sick of it. The chances of my voting for her in the general are rapidly approaching nil unless there is a big, fat apology on the horizon.

It's one thing to sweep the past under the rug. She exploited homophobia for political gain until late in her career. Fine, whatever. Let's move on if we must.

But if she's going to get up on a podium today and and still tell lies to the LGBT community's face . . . "Sure I punched you repeatedly in the head. But I gave you an ice pack afterwards! And hey, aren't you the better for the experience? Tougher, more capable of future punches? You should be thanking me!"

To paraphrase Tina Fey - I am not some abused child of an alcoholic. I will not stand there and take that shit from someone.

This is far beyond the bounds of acceptable, it should be absolutely indefensible. The time for overlooking this shit from Democrats is long past. 2008 should've been the end of it. Any decent person should be utterly unwilling to let this zombie rise again in 2016.

He muttered opposition, but he signed the thing (with a Democratic Congress, no less). The hallmark of how this couple seems to operate. That was probably also good for us in hindsight.

I do have a possible explanation though! He did it so gay people could like President Obama just that much more.

And as you said in another thread, there were about a dozen ways for Clinton to explain an evolution on the subject, and she went with, "Well, I was never wrong! I was just being strategic. For your benefit."

We shouldn't be having this discussion in a 2016 Democratic primary. At all.

I kind of want to know how hard Robby Mook's head hit the desk once he saw that. How does a candidate with a gay campaign manager walk into a homophobic quagmire that no one was leading her into?

I can't even see the triangulation angle here. Nothing about it will placate conservatives. I can't imagine anyone anywhere with common sense thought it would endear her to LGBTers. I have no idea who she's trying to appeal to.

I think we just ended up with an earful of her ego talking and unwillingness to really ever admit error.

If you're talking about the post he made in this thread.

It was a copy of this post:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1251&pid=744715

This post was left alone, so DoctorJ swapped Sanders with Clinton and left the post as is to see if it would be hidden or complained about, I suppose measuring for a double standard. Hence my reply to him that I had just been on a jury for the post he was referencing.

Well, you kind of proved his point a little. You're freaking out about him, but you don't seem to have much to say about the other one.

When a person of power says harmful things about the LGBT community, the choice is not to criticize the powerful person, but turn highly negative emotions towards a random internet person.

Addressing an injustice is love. Ignoring it is something else.

Insert here something about her supporting LGBT rights now and telling you that you have to realize a reality-based world and electability and babble about Sanders being a sexist and racist and some insinuation about some McCarthy-era red scare bullshit and the electorate. Conclude with some helpful criticism about Sanders supporters being "dumb as a brick and twice as thick".
Just trying to get all the HRC supporters discussion points out of the way.
