"No one's ever asked if Michelle was my only wife..."

Do you think Gov. Romney would find that joke funny? Let's say Obama, in front of a crowd, joked about having multiple wives ... how well would that go over? I'm guessing not very well. Of course, a comment like that would never happen because Obama doesn't resort to petty jokes to belittle his opponent's background.

We know had Obama made a similar joke, but instead used polygamy as its target, the right would be up in arms ... the media would be demanding the President apologize. Ann and Mitt would go on television and have a conniption fit. And you know what? It'd probably be warranted. Bigoted jokes, no matter how innocent, don't have any place in American presidential politics. Leave the birther jokes to the comedians - not to the guy who could become the next president of the United States.

Romney should apologize and the media should force him to apologize because it was a classless joke that had no humor.

Romney often talks about how serious this election is. Okay, Mitt, it is serious - now start acting like it is.

true, had obama thrown the first punch with that line, it would have been classless, but as a comeback to rmoney's birther comment, it plays well.

and apologies for this sort of thing is worse than useless. people who make birther-type accusations are just trying to get the story in the press, and talk about apologies and non-apologies and whatever, it all just keeps the media talking about the story the birthers want them talking about.

He doesn't need one.

Since 1980, the GOP has put up cardboard cutout presidents. The GOP considers the president of the United States of America, the commander and chief of our armed forces, a PR job. Just like Reagan, the Bushes, and now Romney, they don't expect the president to actually run things. He will go on TV, meet with National Leaders, raise money, read speeches he didn't write, and talk tough, but the real action will be going on by someone unelected in an undisclosed location.

GOP Government: Unelected and undisclosed.

Know any Right Wing social conservatives? Ask them.

It will bug the daylights out of them. I'm sure, in private, they are wondering the same thing.

Maybe they will ask their social conservative friends.

Maybe they will ask their pastor.

Maybe they will call and ask their favourite radio talk show host.

I really wonder what they think about Romney. They have been unusually quiet.

I guess they must not think Mormonism is a cult. I don't. I actually don't care.

Liar.

Spot on analogy, DI. When PObama said that about romney putting things on his car...it was a fact(his own son was bragging about it) The birther "joke" was pandering to racist assholes.

Joking about..if romney had any extra wifes would have the gop and the entire US corporatemediawhore$$ in such a frothing screaming Tizzy mode that I'd fear for their ability not to implode en masse.

Essentially, there are absolutely no rules when it comes to attacking Obama but the rules are still observed when attacked Republicans.
