Post-Dispatch/News 4 Poll: McCaskill leads by +9

U.S. Senate challenger Todd Akin's support in Missouri has plummeted since his remarks a week ago about "legitimate rape" and pregnancy, putting him 9 points behind Sen. Claire McCaskill in a race he was previously winning, according to a new Post-Dispatch/News 4 poll.

More than half of Missouri voters now view the Republican congressman unfavorably, the poll indicates, and fewer than one in five view him favorably.

Akin's fall is especially dramatic among women. They were about evenly split between Akin and McCaskill in a similar poll at the end of July, but women now oppose him by almost 20 percentage points. Even in rural areas where Akin retains the lead, his support has dropped significantly from a month ago.

Why would Rasmussen pretend that the party he hates is ahead? The conspiracy theories concocted around Rasmussen are something too kooky.

I was listening to some of RW talk shows yesterday and they continuely brought up the Raz poll as evidence he should drop out.

Rasmussen is controlled by the GOP. Anyone who doesnt realize that is more than "kooky".

If Claire has her shit together, there is no coming back from this by Akin. He's toast.

I hope Claire keeps hammering away at ol' Todd-o.

i heard of a poll that had Obama ahead in Missouri... the Republicans treatment of women could very well end up in an electoral landslide, as well as house (of representatives) cleaning..

Still a long way to go, keep hammering. Not sure of a landslide, but this election will be won or lost by the women vote

True. It will be up to women to do the right thing and determine the future

One of the things that's always obvious with polls like this is it shows how many regressive men there still are. Many of them are still supporting Akin.

Btw, the formatting of the poll categories got messed up when I copied it above.

However, I don't think it's too far-fetched to imagine Father GOP will take Akin out of the race whether he likes it or not. . .I would be very, very afraid if I were him.
