For the past several months (probably years) I've been reminding folks that over 3.5 MILLION Texans

... over 3.5 MILLION Texans in 2008 voted for Obama.

And it tickles me pink every time I look at the Talking Points Memo 2012 presidential electoral scoreboard

and see that Texas is shown as 'likely' republican and NOT solid red

Map here: http://core.talkingpointsmemo.com/election/scoreboard

I'm lovin' it

3. Texas is NOT as red as some folks think it is

In 2008 Obama won the 'counties' that Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, El Paso are in: Travis Co., Dallas Co., Harris Co, etc.

In 2008 over 3.5 MILLION Texans voted for Obama. I think there will be even more in 2012.

In Texas there was only a 11.77% difference between Obama and McCain, which was much less than many of the other red states.
There were 15 red states that had a larger margin of votes going to McCain than Texas did.

List of 2008 U.S. Presidential results by state here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_u.s._presidential_election#Result

The only really big city McCain won down in here 2008 was Ft. Worth/Tarrant Co.
they're a bit more redneck over there.

for them to grasp. I will say the divide is very deep here.

5. It has been many years since Ann Richards was governor

But after 18 years of Bush Lite and Perry, and clowns like Gohmert in the House and Cornyn in the Senate, even a State like ours can ask itself if there hasn't been enough of Republican dominance.

6. Let me know when those numbers get above 50%.

Texas is a big state & 3.5 million is probably the population of one of their big cities. That's not saying much.
When over 50% of Texans break away from the Conservative/Republican bull, then let us know.

According to Wikipedia, the population of Texas is about 25,674,681 (2011 estimate).
So give us a holla when we see numbers above 12,837,340.

You'll have plenty of company around here, unfortunately.

Sorry I can't stick around; I'm a Texas Democrat and I have things to take care of......

I was so proud NC was blue last time (even if just barely)!

Go TEXAS!

14. The numbers you posted don't matter. What matters is the number of people that vote
Mon Aug 27, 2012, 04:27 PM
Aug 2012

In 2008

McCain: 4,479,328

Obama: 3,528,633

So, if you think that Obama's 3.5 million votes isn't much then McCain's 4.4 million votes isn't much either

15. OK fair point. Then let's see a better number than 3.5 million

Texas has a long way to go especially being the second most populated state of the United States.
It's gonna be a long time before that state becomes a reliable Progressive stronghold.

Yeah, 4.4 million ain't that much either.
I always say that the majority is neither the Democrats OR the Republicans, it's the people who are disillusioned with voting.

7. Does Romney have a Texas problem?

Headline you are not likely to see in any "liberal media" outlet.

His margin is smaller in Texas than BOs is in Pa, but Pa is a "swing" state ...

8. I haven't seen *any* Romney/Ryan signs or bumper stickers yet.

I've seen two anti-Obama bumper stickers, but nothing that's pro-Romney. Four years ago, McCain/Palin signs and stickers were common.

But I saw more of them in Northern Virginia last week, and Romney has as much chance of winning northern Virginia as he has of winning California.

...admittedly, I've not checked into it this time.

And I must admit, even being in CA, I'm scared of the crazy. Last go around, I had 2 Obama stickers
on my care but always worried (no, nothing happened). I just don't trust crazy.

The CWA Hall was packed to the rafters with Democratic activists and precinct chairs pushing, learning and organizing for the Fall push - which has already started. The R base is already maxed out - we're going nowhere but up as we keep on turning Harris County bluer and bluer.
