New Pa. voter IDs issued!

A new photo ID for voters who do not have the documents to obtain other identification was issued for the first time on Monday to a single person in Pittsburgh, a PennDOT spokeswoman said.

The Department of State voter ID, described by officials as a safety net, will be available throughout Pennsylvania this week at PennDOT driver's license centers. Only the Pittsburgh center was open Monday.

The state developed the free ID for voters who lack the documents, such as a birth certificate, needed to obtain a photo ID from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. For voters who were born in Pennsylvania, state agencies will first try to verify the person's birth and issue a PennDOT ID.

2. And they have to get to a location this week, AND they have to find one that's open!

They are so blatant, yet they're getting away with it!

6. Oh, definitely. And everyone has tons of spare time, gas, and their ear on the news to get there.

Might as well have a drawing out of hat to figure out who gets to vote. This stuff makes me wanna puke. At least I live in a blue state where we took care of our stuff and don't have to go through this. We do have a bagger running for a job in the electios office, and if she gets into office, I expect shenanigans and great harm.

they WON'T get away with it. Don't know exactly status of legal proceedings, but finally my money's on courts, especially federal courts, to deep-six their schemes.

voter id for most users, but the lack of transportation and time. If they don't have a drivers license they may have to walk very long distances or take multiple buses (that is if buses are even available) to even get to PennDOT. Women may have to travel with small children. They surely don't expect the elderly to walk several miles in the summer heat. And then there is the matter of operating hours for DMVs, In my county—not Pennsylvania--the hours are complicated. Four branches none of them keeping the same hours. Each is closed a different day of the week, in order to stay open two hours later one evening a week and maybe half day on Saturday. Only one is accessible by bus and only if you live in the same city near the only bus route serving the city and still one would have to walk a quarter of a mile. No routes for the other cities. How are they going to help those without transportation?

10. Yeah it is now almost September. Election is a little more than 60 days away. Won't they have to

waive the requirement this time? It is not reasonable to expect everyone to get an ID in 60 days.

How do I know who they are?

Maybe I'll ask for their birth certificate.
