Related: About this forumNEWT PLEASE RUN AS A THIRD PARTY CANDIDATE
Dear Mr. Former Speaker:
I wish to encourage you to do your bit to help this nation out tremendously.
By the oratorical skills you possess and the resources at your command,
please use them to enlighten the 2012 presidential race.
Only you have the unbridled confidence, the aggresive style
and the nothing to lose bility to make a run from the right.
You will not only be the darling of the right wing evangelical
establishment, but the Lord wants you in this race!
Sample of a possible letter to encourage the Newt to run 3rd party

(62,683 posts)We/they need a second wave. John Fugelsang was saying he's interested to see how the Occupy movement evolves this year. I'm hopeful we can become more cohesive, somehow -- so we're not so easily dismissed.

(10,419 posts)Mr. pig and I still refer to nutrition for our kitties as "cat fudd*".
*Spelling intentional - we pronounce it to rhyme with Elmer Fudd.

(3,073 posts)Not something I know how to do but think of how much we could collect from Dems to inspire him to either run as a third party or keep running against Mittens. Anyone up for the challenge? If Stephen Colbert can raise over a million- we could too! Could be a fun project....

(26 posts)There is no Republican Party today.
The Party of Lincoln, or as it is now known...The Three Faces of Abe...is exactly that.
The Old Line of the Party (The Real GooP) are both rallying around Romney, and soiling themselves, simultaneously. They do all that they can to erase the lines which delineate their loose-knit Coalition of the Swilling.
However...The Evangelical Wing is both committed to Santorum and unlikely to ever accept Mitt of the Magic Underwear.
The Tea Party/Ron Paul Constitutionalist/Anybody not yet realizing that Newt is fucked in the head Wing of the Party won't have to worry whether Ron Paul is running as a 3rd Party Candidate...he IS. Or..whether Newt will be running as a 4th Party Candidate...he is NOT. Newt WILL in the end, sell his, Callista's, and both of his daughter's souls in the end. He's just stringing the GooP out long enough to get the best deal. Dr. Paul, on the other hand, has had more than one offer to bring his clan back into the fold over the last several years/decades...instead opting to set up Rand, for his 1st 3rd Party effort in 2016.
Make no mistake, the Goop WILL do everything in its power to unify. And, if they DO...Mr. Obama CANNOT beat the Axis of Weasel. However...as indicated, I believe that the chances of all of these dominos...and most of the wackjobs associated therewith...truly believe that their ONE-THIRD has greater value than any combination of the above.
Let's hope so.

(31,981 posts)Most states have a "sore loser" law which says if you run for an office in a party primary you then can't run for that office as a third party or independent. So Newt and Paul would have no practical way of running even if they wanted to.

(11,175 posts)The reason is the technicality that, on Election Day, neither Ron Paul nor any other Presidential candidate is elected to anything. Paul would be asking people to vote for a slate of electors pledged to him. Those candidates for the post of Elector would not have run and lost in any primary.
Of course, the practical reality is that voters will be voting for Obama or Romney or Paul or Johnson or whoever else seeks the Presidency, so maybe the "sore loser" laws would be invoked without regard to the Electoral College.
I don't know whether this has ever been litigated.

(31,981 posts)has to fill out paperwork declaring themselves a candidate for President running in the X party. Since Newt and Paul have run in the R primaries the law would prevent the secretary of state from accepting paperwork for either of them running in a third party. I don't know whether it has been litigated either.

(336 posts)Roe vs Wade is going nowhere, gay marriage is being recognised state-by-state - all the carrots used to persuade them to vote against their economic interests have remained just in front of their nose. They got DOMA, and DADT as a compromise - that's all they got in 30 years. In every other respect the US has become more and more socially liberal, whilst their collective energy as a voting bloc has been directed to prop up an economic consensus that does them (or many other people) no favours.
Freerepublic is very interesting reading right now - almost everyone, including Bush, is a RINO, only Gingrich is the true conservative.

(336 posts)being all foreign and that, and I've found only three consistent positions - no gays, no abortion, no uppity blacks (buffoons like Cain are OK).
Their states' rights shit goes out the window when in comes to gay marriage, their fondness for balanced budgets materialised precisely in January 2009 (and evaporated when Newt promised his moonbase) - and Newt has had their recontextualisation motors working overtime, with him attacking Romney from the left, his three marriages, and his team-up with Pelosi on GW just 4 years ago.
It must be hard work being a freeper, and making the evidence squeeze into your conclusions - so much easier the other way round.
