Broad support for contraception coverage

While the Obama administration's recent decision on contraception has caused a stir, it's worth pausing to appreciate the fact that most Roman Catholics already agree with the White House.

A majority of Catholics believe their employers should be required to provide coverage for contraception and birth control, according to a poll released Tuesday from the nonprofit research organization the Public Religion Research Institute.

The poll found that a solid majority of Catholics, 58 percent, say contraception and birth control should be a required, no-cost benefit under their company's healthcare plan.

Support, not surprisingly, is fairly broad among most groups. The only constituency opposed to the coverage in this poll was self-identified white evangelicals. The Public Religion Research Institute released this chart with its survey results:

By the reasoning of the White House's critics on this issue, people of faith are apparently hostile towards people of faith.

The hue and cry is this mandate denies religious freedom...
the quesion is: freedom for WHO?

Freedom from WHAT?

How can it be religious if it denies half the population the freedom
to decide for themselves if they want to bear a child?

This makes no sense.
Whose religion is it?
No one is forced to use birth control;
if someone comes seeking food, you feed them.
SEeking shelter? Comfort? Assurance?
It goes without saying.
But to come, seeking freedom from unwanted pregnancy,
suddenly its about religious freedom?

Once again, patriarchal men wanting to foist their medieval beliefs on women
no matter the religious beliefs of those women..
this sounds like repression of women.

here we go again.

Now, I have 2 masters degrees in theology
so I'm not uninformed concerned matters of the church.
but this excuse takes the cake.

So, women, let's 'KOMEN" the Bishops and our senators and representatives.
Bomb them with calls, with tweets, with emails:
do not deny us our rights in the name of some archane doctrine.
Get off our backs!
