Mother Of Four

I'm coming to DU less and less often, it makes me sad.

Don't worry this isn't an "I'm LEAVING!" post.

All this chest beating is beyond exhausting. I read every day “Hillary's going to win … it's a sure thing!” Then, “Bernie has this in the bag!!!” back and forth, over and over again. People attacking each other over their candidate choice.

Here's a tip. If you really support your candidate as much as you say you do, take all this energy and hit the street. Talk to people, inform them of your candidates position. Show them your candidate deserves that support, tell them why you support them. All this back and forth accomplishes is spinning in circles because I've got news for you. Neither candidate is a sure thing. Neither candidate is inevitable.

If you're in a position like we are where Hubs job doesn't allow for open partisanship, you could do something like what we do. For our part our family is quietly focusing on the college age students in our area, especially since three of the four are in local college right now and also have friends at the University in town. We are asking everyone they know (and a lot they don't know but bump into) if they are registered, letting them know how primaries work in the state, and talking to them about Bernie. We have little slips that we hand out that say things like “Are you Berning up with frustration at not being able to get ahead? So is Bernie Sanders, find out more at go.berniesanders.com or #feelthebern. We aren't affiliated with the campaign, we just want you to know about him.” “Bernie Sanders believes nobody who works 40 hours a week should be living in poverty. Find out more at go.berniesanders.com or #feelthebern. We aren't affiliated with the campaign, we just want you to know about him.”

We can fit 19 slips onto one standard sheet of paper. It might not seem like much, but the younger set has a tendency to remember catchy hashtags like #feelthebern.

Put this energy to work for your candidate. Get loud, get proud … but do it in a way that HELPS instead of hurts.

I almost don't care who wins, I just want all the bickering and bullshit posturing to stop.

4. I think the main purpose of having the Primaries (forum) is to separate

all this particular sniping from general political discussion. If one gets sick of it - then then still participate on DU but on another forum like the regular General Discussion (forum) or any number of other forums or groups elsewhere on DU.

6. Trying to 'convince' each other is pointless, especially since the DU audience is so small.

I agree, there are better uses for one's energy than shouting and insulting one another. Actually, sitting on the sofa and watching reruns of Gilligan's Island is more productive.

You've seen several primary seasons. They always gets heated, people always leave (sometimes they come back, sometimes they don't), and we always get over it. This is the time when we are supposed to fight, and we should be passionate about our support. After all, one of our candidates will become President.

To paraphrase - Primary season at DU is the best of times, and it is the worst of times...

This is an opinion board...it's main function is to create an arena. All the groups post links to help each other support our candidate in our area. The GDP is not that area. This is the colosseum to hash it out.

I have learned so much from this board and am getting ready to caucus in my state. I have found out loads of information and it really was here that my support for my candidate solidified.

If we didn't do the GDP, this board would fail in its endeavor. There are people who come read and weigh it all out. There are others who come to plant memes and to see what happens. There are some who just like to debate...

it is a lot of things to a lot of people.

Sane, polite and reasonable?

Thanks for the lesson; I hope the adults here can take it to heart.

used to be a great place for news and analysis.
but then the entire media has taken a powder.
lost a lot of posters one way or another.
do you suppose fluoride cures respect and solidarity?
viciousness gets misdirected and amplified,
kill the messenger, smear the questioner
why should that happen?
are we all just dumb animals?
afraid of ideas and free speech?
personal attacks by a hostile minority can be a real PITA.
what are we fighting for?
