Well, if he wants to get them back from those who won't vote for him, perhaps that would make a court case for him trying to bribe and buy voters through these gifts that they can take him to court over. If they'd let them keep them as gifts, then it would be harder for them to prove that those gifts had expected return value for them.

Look, 25 percent of REPUBLICANS voted for Bernie in his last election. Bernie, himself, has said those Republicans don't agree with him on choice or gay rights, but they DO agree that he's honest and will stick up for them and their right to earn a decent living.

Bernie got re-elected with 71 percent of the vote, has an approval rating in the mid 80s and carried 25 percent of the Republican vote. Apparently, you don't mess with Burlington's Favorite Son.
