2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI am proud to stand with American hero, Gabby Giffords, in her endorsement of Hillary Clinton
Former Rep. Gabby Giffords, D-Arizona, is expected to endorse Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, a source close to Giffords tells CBS News.
Giffords and her husband, retired astronaut Mark Kelly, will officially announce their endorsement of the candidate later this week, with Clinton's position on gun control playing a role in their decision.
The couple's endorsement is a personal one and not a decision from their political action committee, Americans for Responsible Solutions.
The former Arizona congresswoman has been a staunch advocate of tightening firearm legislation since 2011, when a gunman opened fire at a supermarket parking lot in Tucson, shooting Giffords in the head and killing six others. This weekend was the fifth anniversary of the shooting.

(16,286 posts)that both of our candidates are great when compared to the assholes and that what is important is everybody we know is registered to vote and is going to vote, ultimately of course in the GE.
After posting this I saw more posts attacking Hillary, and I guess supporters by extension...sigh, so sick of this
What I like about your post is you dont attack anyone

(30,247 posts)I have nothing but admiration for the battle that Gabby Giffords has fought since she was shot.
She's a remarkable woman.

(54,349 posts)I knew her for several years before she was shot, and had nothing but admiration for her then. I didn't agree with all her stances, but was awed by her open, warm sincerity. I was apprehensive about seeing her after the shooting, wondering if she would recognize me after nearly two years. I needn't have worried. The second she saw me, she reached with her good arm and gave me a hug. Still pretty remarkable!

(30,247 posts)I really didn't know anything about her before the shooting, but I have admired her battle to recover. Throughout, every time I saw her on TV, her sunny personality and positive attitude shone like a beacon.

(54,349 posts)We had a dinner date in Washington with Helen Thomas on Jan. 14th. We had made it at New Year's at a thing we both attend in South Carolina every year. You can imagine my shock when I heard what happened to her just a week later.
This was two years after she was shot, back at the same New Year's gathering:
