Claire McCaskill headed to Iowa to campaign for Hillary Clinton
She joins three other women senators who will make stops in eastern Iowa
By Steve Kraske
............McCaskill will join fellow Sens. Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, Mazie Hirono of Hawaii and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota in a series of stops in eastern Iowa, which tends to be the most Democratic part of the state.
The group will focus on Clintons commitment to moving America forward by guaranteeing womens right to make their own health-care choices, a statement from Clintons campaign said. Hillary Clinton will always stand up for Planned Parenthood and for a womans right to choose.
The group will stop in Mount Vernon, Dubuque, Waterloo and Mason City Friday and Saturday. Baldwin will make an additional stop on Saturday in Iowa City.
The Iowa caucuses are Feb. 1.

(24,411 posts)when he mentioned the recent polling. Bernie said that the polls that have him beating Rubio, Cruz and Trump, in Iowa, by wider margins than Clinton--demonstrate that her "I'm inevitable, Bernie is unelectable" assertions are false.
Clinton doesn't even beat Rubio and Cruz in the battleground state of Iowa.
Bernie also spent a solid ten minutes during his rally, breaking down Clinton's "electability" talking point, and he used recent polls (WSJ/NBC) to demonstrate his point.
So. You're wrong. He not only is proud and encouraged by the recent polls, but he cites those polls to underscore the points that he is making.

(58,785 posts)and you despise them because of their records. Which side are you really on?
Super Tuesday is 49 days away. At that point you're probably going to have to decide. After all, the GOP has some real doozies who are promising people who want "change" that nothing will ever be the same again if they're elected.
libdem4life
(13,877 posts)Had you read carefully, you would have noticed that the subject was the Woman Card, yet again, and right on the heels of the PP whatever. Throws her gender-free fluff out the proverbial window.
I have no idea ... other than McCaskill...who these women are. It's like "Here Come the Girls/Women"
Oh, and I'm not a guy.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)himself, and the same goes for the others. Do you guys ever return and get a little shocked at the anti-Democratic Party group message you're serving up this election? If I were hoping to get Bernie elected, if there were no other alternative for me, I wouldn't just be disgusted at what's being said under the mantle of Democratic Underground, I'd be so angry I could spit. I'd feel sick.

(58,785 posts)they don't lie down with them and pretend they aren't there. That's not a classy analogy, of course, but then I don't see anything classy about the kind of slurs on good women I was discussing -- to put it mildly.

(11,366 posts)I'm 45 (well, I'll be 46 tomorrow), Southern and Irish Catholic. You'd think I'd be a Hillarite, given my demo, but, the thing is, I read. I know what she's about and she's not "with" me.
There is NOTHING I've said that's anti-Democratic. The fact is that I'm tired of the Democrats lurching further and further right. We're supposed to be the party of unions, the average worker and equality who thinks before we go to war. We've not been that my ENTIRE voting lifetime, which sucks.
I won't walk back ANYTHING.
After Harold Ford Jr., establishment DINO extraordinaire from my state (and someone I know, personally) had a conniption fit over Bernie's polling numbers on MSNBC this morning, I know I'm on the correct path.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Bernie is not a Democratic outsider, he just positions himself that way. He is literally where he is today because of the Democratic Party that he has been an unofficial part of for a quarter century in Washington. He IS one of the long-time Democrats you characterize as establishment drones. He was there voting with the pack through all the bad times when the party went along with so much we despise and failed to do so much that we resent. Actions count, not words pretending the actions never existed. If the party moved right and stayed there, so did he.
Except that Bernie is not a right-wing Democratic business drone. Of course. So if he's not, maybe your picture of all his other colleagues as drones marching rightward en bloc needs adjustment? Your wishes for change today, in fact, are reflected in many of them, including those you insulted so unfairly in this thread. And in me. We mostly want the same things; the difference is that I'm not trying to shoot down my natural allies in an excess of misdirected resentment.
It would help to understand the Democratic Party better. Why not read something that will give a little perspective on history?
This article describes the party over those bad years up until today. It's not the be-all/end-all of information, but it provides a big picture and would be a place to start replacing some of that frustrated resentment with justified hope. Whether Bernie wins or Bernie loses, change has been happening and will continue. Why America is Moving Left,
http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2016/01/why-america-is-moving-left/419112/
The Atlantic has some good stuff about Bernie you'd like too. What if Bernie Sanders is the Democrats' Best Bet? http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/01/wildfire-berning/423552/
And the current issue also has an article about a progressive party that probably thinks of you as a Democratic establishment drone because you're not with them.
BTW, The Atlantic is considered a moderate publication. I like that because I can pretty much be depended on to provide my own leftward spin on things and know how easy it can be to slip into ideologic delusions.

What do they think that means?
In spite of her name, my best guess is Fawke Em would get over it if Hillary won. Pointing out that one's iconoclaustic hero has been mostly in lock-step with supposed "right-moving establishment drones" for 25 years may have caused a bern instead of a reality check.
The message, Fawke and others, is that just maybe a lot of Democratic representatives are not "establishment drones," much less hopelessly to the right on issues.
Just maybe some of them have been working for the kind of change we want for many years, in reality struggling to stop the nation's massive move rightward and battling the forces of conservatism to slowly, slowly get it turning left again. And just maybe many others wanted the same things but mostly didn't fight, waiting out those hard years until the time came when they could move left again without getting tossed out of Congress. (Yes, I agree -- most do like their jobs too much.)
Just maybe Bernie's positions and goals are very similar to those of a number of his colleagues, just differing somewhat in how to get there.
You might also wonder WHY Elizabeth Warren started voting Democrat in 1995 after decades with the GOP. Did she move left so she could move right with Democrat "establishment drones?" Just maybe she wanted to support those Democratic representatives who were trying to stop corporate infiltration of government and growing economic inequality.

(24,411 posts)Hillary has trouble drawing small crowds to her events. What exactly does she believe that senators from other states are going to do?
I understand that Clinton is throwing the kitchen sink at her campaign, which is taking on water.
However, this is not going to move the needle.
The only people who will attend these events are Clinton supporters, and the audiences will be very small.
I guess you can't fault her for trying.
Fawke Em
(11,366 posts)To get crowds, Hillary needs a rock star.
But, the crowds go to Bernie because Bernie IS a rock star.
(Hey. He's drawing as many people as the Rolling Stones and The Who!)

Fawke Em
(11,366 posts)If the media isn't covering you - and they weren't for a long time - then you repeat yourself.
Most people aren't as involved as we are on DU and haven't heard his stump speech.
I work in PR and I know he's absolutely correct in repeating himself. Repetition breeds familiarity.
And, judging by today's polls: it's working.
oasis
(49,376 posts)respond to unprovoked negative attacks on pro-Hillary OPs which are positive in nature. As I have stated on DU many times before, I respect and admire Bernie. I have carried this sentiment toward him for many years, long before his presidential aspirations.
In my final remark to you, which, btw, has nothing to do with my feelings about Bernie; in closing your last post you wrote as an explanation for Bernie's repeating himself "repetition breeds familiarity". Being in PR, you have undoubtedly heard the expression,"familiarity breeds contempt".
Didn't want to spring that one on you in the context of what I was trying to convey earlier so there would be no confusion about my intent. But I just had to get that out, being the blustery soul that I am.
Anyway, as always, I suppose we can end this chapter of our history of encounters in a peaceful way.
Have a good evening.

(49,376 posts)possesses a great deal of wit. Tammy Baldwin is an impressive war veteran. Mazie Hirono is an experienced campaigner. She does her homework.
I campaigned for Mazie years ago when she ran for governor of Hawaii against Republican, Linda Lingle. She lost to Lingle but, in later years, won one of Hawaii's two Congressional seats. I was delighted to learn she had won a U.S. Senate seat after I had taken up residency in Nevada.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Are you in Nevada these days, Oasis? I just read this bold prediction in Ralston Reports: "Hillary Clinton will win the Nevada caucus on Feb. 20, but it will be closer than people expect. She will then talk about how much she loves the state. After she wins, Harry Reid will boldly endorse her." LOL.

(49,376 posts)card from the 2008 election cycle. I worked for her campaign in 2007.
Late in 2007, Bill Clinton headed a fundraiser at Andre Agassi's college prep school for the disadvantaged on Lake Mead Blvd. Bill packed them in and gave a mesmerizing address.
He is definitely a valuable asset to Hillary's campaign.
