On October 24th 1975 90% of the female population of Iceland went on strike

They refused to do any paid or domestic work, including childcare. An estimated 25 000 women - a tenth of the entire population of Iceland - gathered for a rally in the capital, Rekjavik.

Do a Google image search for 'Iceland 1975 strike' and have a look at some of the pictures. Or just do a web search and read about this event, which is celebrated annually. Amazing, inspiring stuff.

Iceland has been called the most feminist country in the world.

It has been posted, but sure someone may have missed it. And besides, it is quite topical.

I have an issue with Iceland's insistence on having a list of approved girl names and approved boy names.

(But then, anything that reenforces gender as a strictly binary thing that is undeniably connected to sex organs, pisses me off.)
