2. Agreed on Miyazaki

All of his movies never raise the question of gender as a plus or minus, it just is. Princess Mononoke? She leads the battle against the corruption. Kiki's? Spirited Away? Ponyo? All have strong, intelligent girls as protagonists. If you ever get to Tokyo go to the Studio Ghibli Museum. Amazing stuff...

5. Nice idealism but in reality we need each other.

I was the first woman to complete my schools Biomedical Technician Course in 1981 but I was being black balled by the electronics theory teacher. I was giving right answers and he was marking them wrong. The class was independent study with the requirement you did not get your answer sheets back after a chance to quick reread the answers to see where you went wrong. My all male classmates finally got me to tell them why I was so blue. I did not want special treatment I just wanted equal treatment and they agreed. They took it upon themselves to speak (?) to him and he called me in the next day and I took the test again, gave the same correct answers and I passed.

One of my saviors was a Vietnam Vet, a husband and father who died of cancer before he or I got a chance to graduate. He had been doused in Agent Orange.

Some people do need saviors, I guess. I think his point is that all girls don't need them, especially not simply because they're girls.
