If You've Ever Wondered What Happens To Kids After They're Rescued From Sex Trafficking, Watch This

Human trafficking happens all over the world, including in the U.S. So we know about it, but what can we do to help? Victims who are rescued from their captors can't just return to regular life as though nothing happened. This is an amazing program that makes a difference.

I hope that more people will open their eyes to what is going on and help these women and children to escape. I also really like the idea of using the + for aftercare and an x for prevention.

The woman in this thread doesn't paint such a sentimental picture: http://www.democraticunderground.com/125526087

She challenges people to open their eyes to these abuses. I kind of prefer her style. I'm tired of trying to sweet talk people into giving a shit.

Either by making money on the brothel or on the rehab.

Doesn't matter to them.

Just like it doesn't matter to them if the money is dollars or euros or yen or pounds or riyals.

Since purchasing her for sex denies her basic humanity.

The treatment center, Love 146, seems to change that as the girls learn that they can be "treated like a human being instead of a commodity to be bought and sold"

The sex commerce, and that of underage girls and boys especially, is based on people as commodities. To be treated as a human being rather than a mere object is the most basic of things, but too radical for some.

So, yes. Release all those guys who are in jail for a few ounces of coke on their "third strike," and replace them with recidivist pedophiles and rapists.

I don't know if effective treatment exists.

Ditto on the non-violent drug offenders. I don't possession or use of drugs should result in any jail time.

I prefer life without parole for anyone convicted of violent crimes where the victim requires treatment for substantial injuries of a physical, emotional and/or mental nature.

There are a lot of different circumstances that could lead to such an event. Not all are equal in intent or severity. In the case of pedophiles, they will continue offending until stopped. Society has to be protected against them.

...life without parole is fine for pedophiles since we're not capable of enforcing 'rot in hell'.

I think doing something to separate the violent from non-violent is a good use for prison. OTOH, non-violent car thieves, pot sellers and serial permitless sidewalk vendors don't belong in jail.

If a kid takes a car for a joy ride, probably not, but he should make restitution. Is someone is involved in a car theft ring, then they should go to jail, even if they don't have a prior conviction.

sharing this video. It is something that everyone here at DU needs to see. It is sad that in Cambodia for example, there are some parents who are so poor that they take their daughters to the brothel because they can't afford the number of children they have. I don't have a link but did attend a Streetlight function that does the same thing as this group. I wonder if this group helps young boys?

Edited to add
http://www.cnn.com/2011/10/23/world/asia/cambodia-child-sex-slaves/index.html

She says she was approached by a man while playing outside. He asked her to come over and talk to him, and before she knew it she was alone and being asked for sex. Some of the girls were actually sold into the sex trade by their own parents.

I would be walking along the street and adult men would pull up and ask "how much" and would I get in their car, etc. . . One time once jumped on the sill of my bedroom window and tried to get me to let him in.

From what I've read on here, other women have had similar experiences.
