Teen Girls Sent Home From High School For ‘Distracting’ Boys With Their Visible Bra Straps

As temperatures heat up, teenage girls across Canada are being kicked out of school for their summer attire. Between 20 and 30 girls in the Newfoundland and Labrador province were sent home at the end of last week for wearing sleeveless shirts that exposed their bra straps — leading some of them to complain that administrators are unfairly targeting girls who just want to dress comfortably.

Menihek High School sent home a group of female students last week for wearing spaghetti strap shirts, saying that violates the institution’s dress code. Although a few male students were also asked to leave for wearing sleeveless shirts, the school district allegedly approached the issue slightly differently with female students because they’re specifically worried about girls’ bare skin becoming a distraction.

Emily Connors, one of the students who was sent home, told CBC News that the girls who were asked to leave were told it was “because of our bra straps, and that it was inappropriate because some of the male teachers, and male students found it distracting for them.” Other students told the National Post that the school has been explicit about the fact that their bare shoulders could “invite unneeded attention” from male students because “boys will be boys.”

1. Do men really want to be viewed as creatures who lack self control & need to be coddled?

Men, the dominate species on the planet - the ones who run everything & pretty much define our culture - but they cannot control themselves at the sight of a bra strap.

My bad, I'll clarify, some men, although more than enough that there is a war on women.

Men cannot control themselves, so women have to cover up. Insane.

Reminds me of this:

Homeschooled Girl Kicked Out of Prom Because of Leering Dads

This is learned behavior. Adult men need to set better examples and stop objectifying girls and women.

5. Yeah, that struck me, too. Adult men, leering at young girls, over their bra straps.

You know when Mens Rights Activists complain about men being portrayed as "inept and boorish" or the like, this kind of shit is the root of it. The ridiculous concept that men can't control themselves. Men should be outraged.

My 15 year old grandson posted something about "friend zoning" on FB, and had his ass handed to him. He truly doesn't understand, because he's a good kid, still fairly innocent, a decent person. Plus he didn't mean it to be about getting laid, he meant it more about getting a girlfriend, and it was a term he found on Facebook without understanding what it meant.

I had to explain in gentler terms why it was inappropriate, and why women live in little fear all the time. How we constantly have to assess men for danger signals, how can't safely walk to our cars alone at night, we can't leave drinks unattended, how we have to attention to what we wear, (not too provocative, not too 'unfeminine)'how we are blamed for our own sexual assaults- etc. etc.

This, he understood.

He reminded me of some of the posters on DU, who, because they're 'nice guys' get all flustered when we explain things or post an OP about a feminist topic. At least I can guess their mental or emotional age now.

a large mallet falls out of the sky onto their heads?

That stupid concept is responsible for about 98.7% of the world's problems.
