You've come a long way, baby

Remember that ad? Even as a child I knew it was fraught with irony. Somehow that is what came to mind when looking at reactions to President Obama's latest proposal that women should appear on US currency. Reactions included the following suggests: Ginger from Gilligan's Island, Kim Kardashian, and

When something so simple is treated as a joke and an opportunity for derision, is there little wonder that a Supreme Court justice can get away with saying women aren't covered under the 14th Amendment, while the court itself rules that we are separate but not equal under ACA, and campaigns to combat rape are denounced as unfair to men?

leaves me scratching my head. Here are some others they might as well have posted. I don't understand the hatred for her.

Usually see that crap on RW sites, not site for dems.

ETA just saw a jury hid the pic posted in GD. Good thing and good to know!

Mineral Man tried to start a positive thread suggesting Harriet Tubman as a first choice, a fine suggestion. Naturally someone had to come defile that thread as well because the idea of women as something to be revered is unacceptable. For them, women are not people who contribute to the nation but Kim Kardashian and Ginger, or Clinton, a woman they see as owned because women are merely objects of possession.

I have been absent from DU for a while, as I was in Rome for 3 weeks to refresh my Italian. It doesn't seem like it is worth returning, when you are met with the 50 shades threads and now this one.
