Related: About this forumWhat's a "pinned" thread?
I ought to know, as long as I've been here, but it's new to me. A thread in the Fiction group in which I was participating got "pinned" and I'd like to know what that means, exactly. Thanks.

What's a "pinned" thread? (Original Post)

(8,543 posts)1. A pinned thread stays at the top of the list of threads in a forum.
Normally a post moves to the top of the forum listings only when it gets a reply. A pinned thread stays at the top whether or not it gets any responses.
An example would be Skinner's What can and cannot be posted in the General Discussion forum thread - it is pinned so everyone one can easily see if there are any exceptions to the normal SoP guidelines for GD (e.g. in case of major news stories regarding guns, religion, etc.).

Many thanks.

(8,543 posts)3. Pinned threads also have a pin for the icon instead of a page.
Threads with either of those icons showing to the left of the thread title in the forum listings are ones that have been pinned - makes it easy to know at a glance.
