When were apostrophes dropped from the title box??

I’ve noticed this multiple times today and it’s making me somewhat agitated because I know damn well how to use that punctuation mark and it’s making my posts look dumb!

1. Happened to me yesterday, and without the quotation marks, it changed the meaning

of my whole thread. I thought I erred, but even on edit I could get them to stay. I think this must be a new, if undesired, "feature".

2. That was exactly my experience as well...

Weird! That’s the first time I’ve run into that here. Sometimes special characters will drop, but not apostrophes.

They get stripped out of text that is copied into the title line. You can preview your post and then put the apostrophes back in by hand.

Because I’ve done that multiple times today...adding back the proper apostrophe and it still drops. Perhaps I need to update my phone.

So my copying your text seems to work no problem...but if I type the same statement it drops...must be my phone!

9. You might need to use ' and " for titles here.

It looks like your device is not using the basic straight apostrophes - which are the only ones that seem to work here now.

Replace apostrophes with '
Replace quotes with "

18. Only straight apostrophes and quotation marks work in titles.

If your device can't produce them, you can use html entities to replace them in titles.

Replace apostrophes with '
Replace quotes with "

20. You know what, it didn't start until I updated my iPhone software.

It must have changed the keyboard to hooked apostrophes.

22. I'm still on iOS 10, but I found something that might help.

It looks like they are calling the curved apostrophes and quotation marks Smart Punctuation. I saw on another forum that you can turn it off in Settings > General > Keyboard > Smart Punctuation.

If you try that and it works, you should report back to let others know.
