DU Community Help
Related: About this forumHello! ... and confused :)
So, hello everyone.
Basically, I'm here because the last 5 years of my life, and the life of my family, have been very difficult. We have been lucky enough to be on the recipient side of government benefits at times when we really needed it, and I am very grateful for those programs.
I grew up in a strongly conservative(read: Straight Republican Ticket) home, but after setting out on my own, I realized the world isn't black and white like I was taught. I've been spending time observing arguments from all sides, trying to decide what I think is best, instead of just believing what I was taught.
So, at this point, I pretty much consider myself a moderate-agnostic. I don't have a stance on most issues, I'm just trying to take them one at a time. I'm hoping that DU can provide me with more of the viewpoint I didn't have for the first half of my life. So, if you can stomach an undecided/moderate around here, I hope to have some good discussion with you.

Allow me to say, however, that this is campaign season, and we do not permit any campaigning for Republicans or other parties. Steer clear of those sorts of statements, and you should be fine!
Welcome aboard!

(51 posts)I understand about the rules, thanks. I'm not really campaigning for anybody at the moment, I want to be able to justify my decision to myself, for once in my life

(51 posts)It's just that recently I've decided to wipe clean my entire political ideology, and start fresh. It's weird, not having that lifelong, automatic 'habit' to just fall back on.
Right now, I'm more focused on budget/tax issues, trying to figure out what I like and what I don't like. For the first time in my life, I'm considering the benefits of progressive taxation.
