Sig help: How do I bold/italicize in my sig?

I see people doing all sorts of things with their sigs and I can't even get mine to be bold and italicized! It looks fine on my profile page after I save it, then when I see it in a post I see the <b> or <i> and the "closing" ones with the slashes.

I see others with those no problem. I also see other sigs that look just like the post text, so they're changing the size and color as well.

Can anyone help me?

1. Try typing an open bracket, then the letter i, then a closing bracket at the beginning of your sig.

At the end of your sig, type open bracket, a forward slash "/", then the letter "i", then a closing bracket.

Note that when you are editing your profile that it will not show at that point--in order to check the work you will need to refer to one of your earlier posts like the OP you just posted to see whether or not the change worked.

ETA: Similar steps to bold the sig, but use the letter "b" instead of "i".

2. You can use the Div tag to change formatting

For example, mine looks like this:

{div style='color: orange;'}{b}Another Fine Product from the Nonsense Factory{/b}{/div}

with square brackets instead of curly. If you just want to control bold and italic, you can omit the " style='color: orange;'" part.

I'm sure there are a lot more tricks, but this works for me...

On edit: if it's just bold and italic you want to change, you don't need the div tag. Just use the i and b in square brackets as Towlie described.

4. I'm going to try using the Div since I tried just brackets and just <> and neither worked.

Looks fine in my profile when I save it but you can see the brackets and <> when I look at my posts.

5. This is so maddening! Why won't it work for me???

This is what I put in: [div style='color: orange;']What if the Hokey Pokey IS what it's all about?

And then when I saved it that's how it showed up as my sig on my profile page. I'll see what it looks like in my post now...

6. HEY!!! It worked! Funny thing is this time it shows incorrectly on profile page

but correctly in post. Without the Div it shows up correctly on profile page and incorrectly in post. Go figure.

Oh, does the size change because it's inside of a Div thingy? Because I didn't change the size but it's not the default sig size anymore.

7. Yes, I think the Div tag completely overrides the default sig style - if you want the original

size it seems you can add that in, e.g. <div style='color: orange;font-size: 0.8642em;'> (That should give the original size of sig line text.)

I think that the 'em' is a proportion; the sig text by default is 86.42% of the default text size. But I'm a purely experimental duffer at this, so perhaps someone will come along and tell us if there's a better way...
