NRA supporters love to talk about their supposed rights and freedoms.

And this right of which they often speak is the basically unrestricted right to own any form of weapon that they desire.

And when they speak of freedom, it is the freedom to carry whatever weapon they desire.

The right rests on a misreading of the Second Amendment. A misreading "found" by a so-called originalist who had to discard 1/2 of the actual Second Amendment to support his argument.

And that freedom, it results in the majority of us feeling less free, and being less safe.

But owning a weapon leads to the illusion of safety, the dream that owning that weapon will protect the owner.

And dreams and hopes do not need any logic. They must simply appeal to the basic desire to feel safe.

eloquently expressing the essence of the Second Amendment absolutist mentality. We, the majority, are needy because they need their twisted idea of freedom to own deadly weapons.

This supposed need, this fantasy, overrides the safety of the other 90% who support regulation.

of those who have been killed by the numerous senseless acts. I guess the 2A's right to keep & bear arms trumps the victims rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?

“I am sorry you lost your child. I myself have a son and daughter and the one thing I never want to go through, is what you are going through now. But: As harsh as this sounds — your dead kids don’t trump my Constitutional rights,” Wurzelbacher wrote.

And given the Russia/NRA linkage, one might wonder if Putin is behind this division.
