You値l Find Koch Dollars At the Root Of the Calls for Armed Revolution Against Obama

(snip)

The idea of using violent force to prevent democratically elected government from operating according to the will of the people began when the Koch brothers’ funded teabaggers brought signs to rallies claiming “we came unarmed this time” during the healthcare reform debate throughout 2009. Republicans and conservative pundits inflamed conservatives with claims their liberties were being infringed up to the time the U.S. Congress passed a law helping 40 million Americans have access to healthcare insurance, and despite the Supreme Court ruling the Affordable Care Act was Constitutional, Republicans are angrier than ever that democracy worked and 44% of them think “armed revolution might be necessary” to protect their liberty. However, healthcare for millions is not the only Republican claim of an assault on their liberties as evidenced by Republican claims their liberties are infringed because the Constitution prevents them from imposing religious edicts on the people. Nearly half of Republicans believe armed revolution might be necessary to enforce Christianity on the population. In Republican-controlled states, the loss in two general elections enraged Republicans who tasked the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) to write template legislation restricting Democratic-leaning voters from exercising their right to vote, and because the Department of Justice enforces the right to vote it is interpreted as an infringement of Republicans’ liberties; their solution is “armed revolution” to “protect their liberty” to eliminate voting rights.

Republican politicians are the primary drivers of the rise in threats of “armed revolution” against the government because if they cannot rule by religious and Koch brother edict, or get their way through the electoral process, then violent insurrection is their solution. The idea of using gun violence reared its ugly head when failed senatorial candidate Sharon Angles said the “public would bring down the out-of-control (Democratic) Congress with Second Amendment remedies” because they were part of “the tyrannical U.S. government,” and made particular mention of her opponent, Majority Leader Harry Reid. Michelle Bachmann said she wanted residents of her state “armed and dangerous” to oppose President Obama’s “because we need to fight back and do everything we can to thwart Democrats at every turn to make sure they aren’t able to secure a power base.” Last year, the Virginia Republican Party called for “armed revolution should we fail with the power of the vote in November,” because they claimed President Obama was a “political socialist ideologue unlike anything world history has ever witnessed or recognized.” Republicans began claiming everything associated with the Obama Administration was a “government takeover” and infringement on Republicans’ liberties beginning in 2009, and it is close to bearing fruit now that half of Republicans support armed revolution against the democratically elected government, and it is all because Republicans are not allowed to rule.

What the Republican threats of armed revolution really expose is that anything outside the conservative agenda, whether it is gay rights, contraception, clean air regulations, free and fair elections, immigration, or freedom from religious imposition is an assault on their liberty and more than enough reason for “armed revolution” against the government. The threats, all of them, have been incited by leading Republicans in Congress and statehouses who have used fear mongering and vitriol to encourage armed insurrection that, like during America’s Civil War, began with nullification infecting Southern states and spreading so that now, nearly half of all Republicans have made their chosen form of government fascism, and not democracy. America has survived for over 230 years because democracy is the greatest form of government, and in the course of four years, because the people chose a Democratic President, nearly half of all Republicans believe “armed revolution might be necessary to protect their liberty” to impose an authoritarian and despotic regime.

Especially the depotism. You cannot reason with them because their living is paid for by reactionaries.

the reason they are fucked is because they fear the NRA and the NRA and its electorate are backed by assault weapons that a significant number of people feel should be used.

There are things that congressional "representation" CAN'T do, even if they thought it best for all, because they fear the consequences.

lawful governmental activities with they or their representatives without being mobbed and even followed to their homes, their families threatened there or at work or schools.

This was most notably done in Wisconsin to attack those who were organizing the recall against Scott Walker, but it's a feature of all the areas with Koch money funding these folks.

We should stop dignifying them by calling them political activists, they are criminals and thugs. This is why we have so many low-life's getting elected because people who believe in government service as a higher calling are being shut out or have decided it's not worth the danger to life and limb.

So we have a legion of teabagger grifters and their supporters who are generally not well educated but see this as way to get ahead of the people they resent. Such as the effete intellectual liberals, just as the brown shirts saw the educated Jew in Germany.

This is the tawdry side of fascism where you have to know someone to get anything. No due process or equal treatment, because they prey on others. Sloppy, maddening, and destructive.

The evidence has been pointing that way for some time: in the stochastic incitements to violence; in the increasingly extreme” Second Amendment” advocacy; and, last summer, in the brazen parading by the youngest Koch brother of his very own tanks and heavy artillery through a small Colorado town, though in fact the very wealthy have been war-gaming with this stuff for some time.

National Guard and regular military units have for some time been infiltrated by Dominionist chaplains, anti Muslim indoctrination of the most murderous kind is carried out there, and – in contradiction to the United States Code – even our overseas units in combat zones are bombarded with Fox-wing newscasts implying our President is “one”.

We are looking at some grim prospects. Maybe Jakarta. Maybe Santiago. Maybe worse.

Don’t let fear write the script, but let vigilance and prudence inform it.

Remember last year's soldiers who killed some people as they prepared their mission to kill Obama and overturn the government? And all of these open threats in various states?

All of my state leaders were under death threats and these people are getting elected with a lot of out of state money and organizing. Representative government is under siege, and what we've been denying, and fleeing from here are the siren calls that to bring order is to be a police state.

We're being hit from the right and the 'left,' which seems so like the right it's hard to believe they want a representative government to exist as they do nothing but degrade it, attack those who say it can do some good and refuse to work in it. The CT is funded by the Koch, so are the Teas and Libertarians, they are not stupid, but damn if they aren't vicious in the extreme, and not stopping.

As the comment said, not to live in fear, but we are seeing this country physically torn about by this philosophy. At what point do we say that it's against our lawful government, when so many refuse to heed anything the government says it is charged to do, enforce laws, healthcare, etc?

If DU is any representation of what we are going to do to resist these reactionaries, we are setting ourselves up to fail.

- which is basically what GUN OWNERSHIP IS ABOUT, btw - WHAT ARE GUNS FOR?

Why else would one carry such a thing?
except for part of their job, or they are RESPONSIBLE licensed local hunters.

I think community awareness, background checks, are a responsibility that is commensurate with this kind of power.

I am dumbfounded that there is even any kind of question about this social/community principle.

about History and stuff like that.

When Winston Smith is brought in for questioning and threatened and then tortured (because Big Brother and his unending war machine are paranoid and sick) for information that WS doesn't have, and the Grand Inquisitor kept punishing WS, for saying 4 fingers, raised on the GI's hand, were 4 fingers and not 5 (or however many the GI said there were, despite the physical fact that the GI was holding up only 4 fingers). It's Orwell's meditation on propaganda and its various cultural mechanisms, such as History. 4 is what we know, but so much about our various systems impels us to pretend otherwise, so a lot of people just say 5 even though they don't know the specific truth of that 5. We're geared for propaganda. Echoes.
