1. Cars are not designed to kill people. Guns are.

Could you imagine if that person on the Venice boardwalk tonight decided to use an assault rifle instead of a car? There would be dozens dead.

But he only managed to kill one with the car, despite actually driving at people. Cars aren't killing machines. Guns are.

And I've seen my fair share of these same disingenuous arguments here on DU. Why in the hell are these people welcome here? There aren't two sides to the gun control debate. One side has a wealth of evidence at their disposal plus dozens of examples in the UK of gun control working brilliantly...and the other side has this "slippery slope" bullshit. Or maybe they'll quote Benjamin Franklin's "He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither."

Like Benjamin was really thinking of gun fetishists who own weapons that can fire in excess of nine bullets before reloading when he made that statement.

The answer from administrators is that there are pro-gun Democrats, but the problem is the gun nut loophole is huge and allows ride wingers, not just pro-gun Democrats, to have their run of the place.

The label Pro-gun democrats just strikes me as an oxymoron. I can't reconcile the differences. Actual democratic politicians I can see giving lip service to the 2nd amendment if they're afraid of losing their seat...but genuinely pro-gun? How can anyone be on the right page on so many issues and then suddenly completely lose their mind?

Has the NRA periodically endorsed any particular make / model of gun? Like XYZ company ranks as the current # 1 $$ contributor to the NRA so their flagship weapon is promoted by these assholes.
Because we all know this abhorrent organization could give a shit about individual members.......it's all about the corporations that support and donate to them

They are backed by the gun manufacturers in general. I am not aware of their playing favorites.
